11 AM

Trail running 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Honley Woods from Neiley whilst the kids trained with the Harriers. Achilles niggly and calfs tight by the end. Stretching after and ice.

Tuesday Oct 30, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Achilles still a bit niggly. 2x4x10 heel raises. Ice.

Monday Oct 29, 2012 #

10 AM

Road bike 2:15:00 [2] 36.0 mi (3:45 / mi)

Achilles still stiff this morning so decided another day off running wouldn't hurt. Road bike over Saddleworth Moor to Greenfield, up to Denshaw and back over Buckstones to Huddersfield. Low visibility over the tops and my lack of lights upset the odd driver.
4x10 heel raises. Ice.

Sunday Oct 28, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Just a little worried that I'd overdone it yesterday and, sure enough, it was a bit stiffer this morning than usual. However it loosened off with some stretching and walking about. Rest day with stretching and ice.

Saturday Oct 27, 2012 #

11 AM

Trail running 52:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

In Leeds for the Fat Rascals chasing sprint but didn't want to risk two races in one day. Ran from Holt Park to Adel Woods, down the valley to Meanwood Park and back through Boddington Halls and Lawnswood Cemetery. Quite a bit hillier and rougher underfoot than I've run on yet. Achilles starting to object by the end. Ice afterwards and a gentle walk to Goldenacre Park.

3x10 heel raises. Ice.

Monday Oct 22, 2012 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Achilles seems OK this morning. Maybe a little stiff but nothing more. Cancelled tomorrow's physio appointment. Hope I don't regret it!
3x10 heel raises. Ice.

Sunday Oct 21, 2012 #

12 PM

Orienteering 26:44 [3] 3.0 mi (8:55 / mi)
(injured)

EBOR Middle Distance, Skipwith Common. Green course, 4.2km.
Perfect area for my comeback, except for the amount of water. Waded one control, but otherwise clean. Nice to be back. Fingers crossed that I won't be hobbling in the morning.
3x10 heel raises and ice.

Saturday Oct 20, 2012 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Lots of walking around York Uni and Strensall Common with the YHOA squad.
3x10 heel raises. Ice after.

Wednesday Oct 17, 2012 #

11 AM

Plenty of walking about town in the afternoon and 3x10 heel raises. Ice after.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2012 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

No adverse reaction to yesterday's run.
3x10 heel raises.

Monday Oct 15, 2012 #

4 PM

Trail running 8:00 [3] 1.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

No adverse reaction to last night's heel raises, so decided to try again to start running. 5 laps of the cricket pitch. So far, so good.

Sunday Oct 14, 2012 #

10 AM

Road bike 3:30:00 [2] 57.0 mi (3:41 / mi)
(injured)

Same problem as yesterday. Decided to go a bit further today. Headed to Bridgnorth first (by different route to yesterday) and then a hilly loop of Shropshire; Brown Clee and Wenlock Edge and back to Ironbridge for re-fueling. Back across country to Wolverhampton. Shame to fall a mile short of 100 for the weekend.
3x10 heel raises. Weak (knackered?) but not painful.

Saturday Oct 13, 2012 #

2 PM

Road bike 2:35:00 [2] 42.0 mi (3:41 / mi)
(injured)

I had nothing better to do than go with Janet to her ping pong tournament in Wolverhampton. What do you do with a spare afternoon in Wolverhampton? Definitely avoid the football (Undy wind-up..).
Headed west, keeping to back roads and trying to avoid the showers. Stopped off at Ironbridge for some Civils sight seeing before heading south to Bridgnorth and back across country to Wolves.

Thursday Oct 11, 2012 #

10 AM

Road bike 1:00:00 [2] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)
(injured)

Easyish spin out to Staveley and back via Crook.
Achilles feeling much better now, although calf still a little sore from the massage. Managed 1 set of 10 heel raises with no pain.

Wednesday Oct 10, 2012 #

10 AM

Road bike 2:25:00 [2] 39.0 mi (3:43 / mi)
(injured)

From Kendal to Tebay, via Killington Lake, and on to Shap. Back down the A6 over Shap summit. Some quite long boring stretches.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2012 #

9 AM

Note
(injured)

Achilles less sore this morning. Another Physio session with Janine. She didn't seem too concerned about the golf having upset my achilles: apparently it is to be expected as I'm not ready for hills yet. Also, the golf shoes wouldn't have helped. However, it should settle down again quickly.
She got properly stuck in to my feet and partciularly the outside of my calf (peroneal?). Calf pretty sore afterwards but achilles less so.
11 AM

Road bike 1:50:00 [2] 31.0 mi (3:33 / mi)
(injured)

Loop of the Forest of Bowland, starting in Dolphinholme. Clockwise this time (opposite to last time- 18 Sept) and with slightly more distance around the north edge; inc. Abbeystead. The trough definitely easier from the north.
Calf sore from earlier massage but no real problem.

Monday Oct 8, 2012 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Stiff and sore in all sorts of places this morning. Most worryingly, is the achilles. However, not so sore as after previous attempts to re-start running. Rest today with some gentle stretching and ice. Hopefully it'll settle back down quickly.

Sunday Oct 7, 2012 #

Note
(injured)

Golf at Alfreton. Achilles getting worse. Golf worse too, but perhaps not surprising after alcoholic handicapping until 2am! Still, I finished with a miraculous putt from off the green for a birdie which will help with enthusiasm for next time.
Ice as soon as I got home.

Saturday Oct 6, 2012 #

Note
(injured)

Golf weekend, Buxton. Surprisingly played pretty well (4 pars and a birdie).
Achilles a bit sore walking in golf shoes which hadn't been worn for two years.

Friday Oct 5, 2012 #

12 PM

Trail running 15:00 [3] 2.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
(injured)

Thursday Oct 4, 2012 #

9 AM

Cycling 2:40:00 [2] 38.0 mi (4:13 / mi)
(injured)

Achilles no worse this morning which is a real relief! Now I can start a very steady build-up. Alternate days to start with.
So back on the mountain bike: south from Kendal to Arnside, Silverdale and Warton. Back along National Cycle Route 6. Misty to start with but bright sunshine by the end. Lovely.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2012 #

6 PM

Trail running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured)

Very steady run on soft (well boggy) ground. No pain at all, but, as ever, the real test is how it feels tomorrow morning.

Tuesday Oct 2, 2012 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Raining so rest day.
Did do some heel raise exercises though: 3 sets of 3x10 varying the angle of foot across the step. No adverse reaction to this so ready to try and start running again.

Monday Oct 1, 2012 #

11 AM

Road bike 1:20:00 [2] 22.0 mi (3:38 / mi)
(injured)

Decided to head East for a change. Penistone and then back along the A629 and A635.
