Running long (Morialta) 1:23:00 [3] 15.0 km (5:32 / km) +365m 4:56 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

I finished work early today, so i decided to go for a long run, as i havent done one for a while and was sort of expecting to do longer last night. It was hot (around 34C), but i put on my skins ice top to help a bit, and it did. Took water with me too. Got to the top carpark and a koala was sleeping in the fork of the big tree just off the ground, so i gave it a pat and it didnt wake up. Went up to deep view, then up to Moores rd from there and kept going until Colonial drive. I was almost out of water at this point already, so i filled up from a tap on a shed just off the road. From here my plan was to keep going up, but it was hot and the balls of my feet were hurting, so decide to go down Colonial drive. Went back into the park and down to third falls, then at the bridge that isnt there anymore i saw the walkers that i saw at deep view (they hadnt gone very far). Back down the normal way from third falls. My feet were hurting quite a lot at this point (they felt very hot), so i wasnt going very fast. The koala was still in the same spot when i went past again, and there was a council worker there looking at it, so i had a chat to him for a bit, and he pointed out the 2 Tawny Frogmouths in the same tree (he didnt know what they were called). Really slow back home from here. When i got home i wrang out all my clothes and quite a lot of sweat came out (even jocks)! Then i sat outside and put my feet in a bucket of ice water, it felt so good!

Orienteering race (Summer Series Henley) 29:08 [4] 5.8 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Did scatter O, it was a great course, lots of route choice. Took a while to work out which 3 i was going to leave out, and possibly made the wrong decision! Felt really sluggish after my run earlier, and didnt really try to run that fast. Actually didnt feel that bad after, except for being really tired.

Walking (Morialta) 42:00 [2] 5.5 km (7:38 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Legs were feeling a bit stiff today, so i went for a walk to first falls and back to loosen them up. Saw 5 koalas, haven't ever seen that many there before, but i was looking more. As i was stopped looking at one, a couple of cute girls came along and started taking photos of it, so had a bit of a chat to them for a while. Could hardly feel my injury today.

Running (Belair) 41:00 [3] 8.6 km (4:46 / km) +220m 4:14 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Went up long gully, past the stairs, then up to the old station. From there we went up an old track through the blackberrys to queens jubilee, then down from there. Felt really good tonight. I was running faster than i have for a long time. Ran with Simon most of the way, he only got ahead on the climb from the station and right at the end. Leg didnt affect my running at all.

Note

Weighed myself this morning and i was 78kg, which i was quite happy with as i was 82kg a few weeks ago. This is from a few things that i have changed. #1 i have decided not to eat any Bakers Delight goodies that Zeb brings home from work. #2 i dont eat many snacks between meals anymore, if i do it is mostly fruit. #3 i have been eating slightly less for dinner, if it is there i will eat it, but if i dont put it on my plate then i will eat less (all you can eat = BAD).

My goal is to get to 73kg, i think that is about right for my body type.

It is so much easier to run when you weigh less!

(rest day)

Had a long day working in the sun today, some of it on a roof, so couldnt be stuffed doing anything after.

Running (Morialta) 45:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Did the normal loop, felt pretty good. Leg is still getting better. Didnt feel it most of the time, on the downhills it hurt a bit, but not much. 6.30 for the hill to deepview. Happy to be able to run again.

Monday Feb 23, 2009 #

Running (Brownhill Creek) 45:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Went for a run with Tyson, Jenny and Simon up Brownhill Creek and back. Leg felt pretty good at first and i was able to run faster than i thought i would. Coming back down it started to hurt a little bit, but it wasnt too bad and didnt slow me down too much.

Note

Got stitches out today. Doctor said that if i go for a run i have to put tape on it to stop it pulling apart.

Orienteering 13:10 [4] *** 2.2 km (5:59 / km) +60m 5:16 / km
spiked:7/11c (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco 11

Went to Adrian Craig's training and was mostly just helping, but i decided to go for a run on the sprint course to test my leg. Leg went pretty good, i was running pretty close to full pace, but tried to avoid as many sticks as possible, as i didnt want to get hit in the same spot and have it hurt even more or pop the stitches! Course was ok, but not quite a sprint course, not enough direction change and it was on a 1:10000 map. Got distracted at #2 as there was another control nearby in about the right spot (i later found out that the other one was in the wrong spot). Something wierd was going on around 5 and 6, they were about the same distance legs on the map, but not on the ground. Lost a bit of time on #10 as i was a bit too far to the left. Fairly happy with result, about a minute faster than Lauren, but a bit scrappy. Need to do more technical training before the march NOL races, especially as there are no events.

Orienteering race 35:13 [2] 4.6 km (7:39 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Summer Series at Blackwood Park. Walked the medium course, as i thought the scatter would be longer than it was. It was a great course, quite a bit of route choice, especially in the school. Leg was really good today, but i still felt it a bit on the downhills. Tyson wasnt happy about me walking as fast as he runs!

Walking (Belair) 53:00 [2] 6.5 km (8:09 / km)
ahr:146 max:188 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Went for a walk while the others ran. Went up long gully, then the stairs, north to the tank, then back down past the tunnel and the ovals. Leg was even better today. Can pretty much walk normally on the flat and up hills, even slight downhills arent too bad. Steep downhills cause a bit of pain, but not as bad as yesterday.

Walking (Morialta) 1:19:00 [2] 8.2 km (9:38 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco 11

Did the normal loop at morialta from home. Leg felt better again today. It wasnt hurting too much when walking on the flat and hardly hurt at all going up hill. Had to slow down on the downhills to stop the jolting, but otherwise it was good. 8.26 for the hill to deep view, which is about 2 mins slower than running.

Walking (Morialta) 50:00 [2] 5.5 km (9:05 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Went for a walk to first falls and back to see how my leg would feel. It was a bit sore, but it was mostly due to the jolting from stepping. It was worse on the way down. I was limping slightly, but still kept up a pretty good pace. Saw a koala on the way back.

Walking (Morialta) 50:00 [2] 5.5 km (9:05 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco 11

Did the same again, but this time with Bec and Claire jogging just ahead of me. I was almost the same speed as them, when they were jogging and much faster when they were walking. Felt a bit better this time, not quite as sore, and it was only about 2 1/2 hours later.

Monday Feb 16, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Leg feels a bit better today than last night. I can walk without too much of a limp, but i still cant bend my knee very much. The muscle is quite sore above the hole, so when it gets activated by moving my knee, it hurts, alot! Have been putting ice on there as much as i can (aprox 20 mins every 2 hours).

Running 15:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco 11

Went for a terrain run before Adrian's training started at Kuitpo. I was going pretty well and jumping over and bashing through stuff ok. But then i hit a stick onto my thigh that i didnt see, and fell to the ground. I didnt think it was that bad (just a bruise), until i looked down and there was a fairly large patch of blood on my pants in no time. I stopped and rolled up my pants and found a large hole, with fat poking out, so i rolled my pants down and took my shirt off and tied it around my leg to put pressure on the wound. We walked back to the car, where i did first aid on myself and discovered a 1cm cube hole in my thigh!

I went to Blackwood hospital on the way home, but they didnt have anyone there to fix it. I went to my local doctor after that, and he decided to put 3 stitches in it. He poked around in there and found no damage to the muscle, which is good. He said i cant run for a week :(, so no Bendigo ToDay for me. Stitches out monday week.

Orienteering race 34:41 [4] 7.0 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Summer Series at Felixstow. Did the scatter and felt really good. Felt like i was running pretty fast tonight, which was great. Wore some new socks tonight, but they were to short and my achilles was rubbing on my shoe and got a blister. Balls of my feet also got really hot and felt bruised when i got back and still sore hours later. Put some ice on them at home and feel a bit better. I was a bit annoyed at some of the controls being on the wrong corner of a street junction than marked, about 5 of the 17 were wrong. Didnt lose too much time over that and it was the same for everyone. It was a good course though.

Running (Belair) 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14

Went along the northern boundary of the park to the top. We lost andrew for a while and later found out he did his ankle, and jenny went to pick him up when we got back. The way down was good, i hadnt gone that way before. Down to the tunnel, along the train line, then down to long gully. Almost got taken out by a kangaroo running along the road, it hopped past me close enough to touch it. Got new shoes today and they felt great! A lot more cushoining than the old ones, which is good for my feet atm, they need a bit of a break. Fastest run for a while.

Walking 50:00 [3] 5.5 km (9:05 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Morialta. Legs were really sore today after touch footy last night, so i didnt really feel like running. Luckily it was only Fern, Ken and Claire that turned up, so we just walked up to first falls and back. Legs felt a bit better after, but need a good stretch.

Monday Feb 9, 2009 #

Running 37:30 [3] 7.2 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Run with Fern. Started from Fren's and did the normal monday night loop up to Carrick hill and back. We decided not to go past the railway station meeting point as we didnt think anyone would be there, but when we found mikey in the middle of the run he said he was there! So he run with us from there. Felt better than i have for a while on a run and it was faster than normal for that loop.
Got a Skins Ice top for my birthday last night and i thought i would try it out today. It worked really well, it kept me cool for the whole run. I was still sweating, but i felt cool. It sort of feels like wearing an ice vest, but less bulky of course. I think i need more of these to wear on every run, may be a bit expensive though.

Oz Tag 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Played touch footy tonight straight after running. Wow it was a crazy game!! I havent sworn so much for a long time!!! Seriously, this is a NON-contact sport and the other team was giving full on tackles and knocking players to the ground!! I wasnt too happy about it. But anyway had a few good sprints in there, but i couldnt catch anyone. Kept Skins top on for this too and it was great! Stayed cool while playing and when i took it off when i got home i was dry! That never happens. The top was wet though.

Orienteering 1:33:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:45 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Terrain run at Kuitpo. Decided after waking up not hungover that i would go running with Jenny, Fern and Lauren. Jenny got me a 2L beer for my birthday and i drank it pretty quickly, plus other beers on sat night. felt pretty good to be running through the forest again. Was a bit cautious on my ankle a lot of the time, not due to stability, but because i dont have much dorsiflexion movement, so if the front of my foot lands on something it hurts a lot. But this is ok most of the time, mostly just bad when its rocky.
Had to adjust my pace a bit. I can run with the others fine on flat ground, but when it gets a bit rougher and you have to jump over stuff, they slow down a bit more than i do, so its harder to run behind. I found myself going off to the side a bit, to get a clear path.
Very tired at the end, after only about 5 hours sleep.

Orienteering race 40:00 [3] 4.2 km (9:31 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Summer series at Christies Creek. It was too hot to be orienteering!!! Shouldn't have gone, but i cant resist going. My car said it was 45C on the way there, which i believed when i got out the car. Did the medium course and started off running, but by about half way i decided it was time to walk. I could feel my shoes sticking to the footpath, then i had to go up a steep grassy enbankment, which i slid back down again. Straight after this i went straight past a control which i was within a metre of. All of these factors made me decide that i couldnt think properly in the heat, so i walked. I went behind some shops and found a tap, which i drank from for a while and put my head under to cool down, it was a great idea. The uphill finish was a nasty one.

Running 46:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Belair. Legs felt really tired at the start, but got better as i got going. We just did a short one tonight. Up long gully to the redwoods, then back again and finished by going through the golf course. Heel is still a bit sore.

Tuesday Feb 3, 2009 #

Running 38:00 [3] 6.5 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Morialta. Was only going to walk tonight, coz it was hot and i gave plasma today and i wasnt expecting anyone else to be there. But Harry was there, so i ran with him. I wanted to run slower, but harry runs too fast and i just stayed with him. I was in front of him going up the hill, but he passed me about 3/4 of the way up. 6.30 for the hill. Started feling a bit dehydrated after the hill and was starting to get a headache, so i came down past first falls. When i got back to the carpark, the koala we saw on the way up was still at the base of a tree looking really hot, so i found a bottle and filled it up and gave it some. It drank about a whole bottle, i filled it up twice, but a lot went on the ground. It was so thirsty that it was biting the top trying to get more.

Note

Donated Plasma today. They took 820ml, which is quite a lot to replace on a hot day! 2.25L of my blood went through the machine.

Running long 1:20:00 [3] 13.5 km (5:56 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Run at Mt Majura in Canberra with the Cockys. So many people there!! About 30 people turned up and im glad it wasnt my job to keep track of them. Went up the hill to start with, but it was a slow and steady climb at first on single track. But then we popped out onto a fire track and it was straight up, not fun! Down the other side to the pine forest and running on mtb tracks. As we were going back up to the saddle on a single track, our ride back to the accommodation went past us on the fire track, which me and Susanne didnt realise. We waited at the top for a couple of minutes then went back and found the car gone. So it was another 12-13 mins run back. Felt pretty good. I felt a couple of injuries in my foot (heel, ankle, achilles) at the start for about 5 mins, but then they were gone. I think having a break this week was good.
