8 AM

walk trot (warmer but breezy) 43:08 [3] 4.0 mi (10:47 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Infinite

Actually liked the feel of the Hoka Infinite today. Felt much better. Slept like a rock except for pee breaks...the flu is starting to hit the rest of OC's BB team now and one guy has a concussion so James may get more playing time tomorrow down in Austin.

The flu is horrible this year. I took pure vitamin C, ate soup and drank tea with lemon juice, honey, cinnamon, etc...some sort of health tea I got for Chrissy. I felt much better and my sinus's did not clog up.

It is breezy but will die down. Supposedly Chrissy and I will play golf together this afternoon. She has rejected playing with me for years...past ten years probably have not played 10 times together and missed years at a time. It is supposed to be 70 and the wind will drop down to 10mph or even less.

1 PM

golf (Lincoln East) 10:00 [3] 4.0 mi (2:30 / mi)
shoes: Skecher Golf

Played with Chrissy...a rarity.

10 AM

walk trot (sunny breezy guts guts) 43:58 [3] 4.0 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

It was cold with the wind chill when I started but it was warming up fast so 1.5 was a little overdressed...still not feeling full power and the extra layers felt like dead weight more than they should have...straight into wind for a mile...26 mph so pretty tough since I was not feeling extra peppy.

walk trot (chilly and sunny) 59:55 [3] 3.8 mi (15:46 / mi)
shoes: LunarGlide8

Did hour plus of warm up core exercises as well as light weights and some knee strengthening stuff.

6 AM

walk trot (never got going at all) 1:03:53 [3] 5.0 mi (12:47 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Clifton 2

Never ever got rolling...even after I pushed some still barely going 13 min pace in the dark...I just cannot go in the dark...my stride is too 'low' I drag my feet and am worried about tripping and other old age stuff...last 3 days of 60's in afternoon declimatized me to the cold also...it seemed to go into my bones and there was no wind to make it worse...just 30 degrees and a chill in the air. I have never gotten my full energy and strength back since my Xmas cold...even on days I've run well then I'm drained way too much after the workout.

running (steady 20mph wind blah) 41:56 [3] 4.0 mi (10:29 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 880 WB 4

One of those semi-regular windy days when the wind is steady and just wears you down. Nice temp in the 50's.

Chrissy is 54 today. Not a wrinkle on her face. She looks much younger. I wrinkled up and lost my baby-face. Now I'm thinning up front where my widow peaks are trying to join up...ironically the rest of my head still have super thick hair.

9 AM

walk trot (sunny warm but breezy) 53:48 [3] 5.0 mi (10:46 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Trail

Right knee is a little tweaky, no pain just...tweaky. Did not stop last 3.75...18:30 at 1.5...so about 35:20 last 3.5...1 mile of which was into wind that slowed me from 10:15 mile to barely under 11...did run last 2 about 19:30. Last mile was 9:03 that does not seem right but I guess it is because I had 44:44 or so at 4..

10 AM

walk trot (OC TRACK TT) 51:09 [3] 5.0 mi (10:14 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

27:25 first 10 laps+ 25 yards
23:45 or so second half. No stopping after about 9.5 to 9.75 laps. Right knee a little tweaky but there was no use not finishing run as it was very minor and at 62 I cannot go 2 days in a row without some niggling nagging tightness, pain, semi-pain, phantom-pain, etc.

Not sure I can get back to the level I was last spring...I got down to a 5 miler at 8:40 pace on the track and sub 9 min pace for 4 milers on the roads before I had to start holding back for various things but mostly left calf and left hip.

Sunny with almost no wind at all, 40+ degrees. Nice because of the sun...always feels warmer when there is a bright sun.

Last 1600 was 9:10. Last lap was 2:09

Guess we are shaking our colds/flu and little injuries although I'm having to ice/heat and baby my right knee to be safe. Good runs for you...keep it up.

8 AM

golf (hurricane winds ugh ugh) 10:00 [3] 4.0 mi (2:30 / mi)
shoes: Skecher Golf

It was supposed to be windy, but it was even worse than they predicted. 35mph steady...40 or more wind guts...some felt over 50...not very long or many of those, but the wind was pure crap.
5 PM

walk trot (cloudy less wind cool) 54:34 [3] 3.5 mi (15:35 / mi)
shoes: LunarGlide8

Sunday Jan 21, 2018 #

6 AM

walk trot (shut'er down ) 37:49 [3] 3.0 mi (12:36 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Clifton 2

Was going to walk only but decided to do my trot walk stuff...my knee was okay...just no energy and typical dark morning slowness combined with fatigue and a steady s/sw wind at 20mp from 1.5 to 2.5...nothing to stop the wind so like 30 to 35mph in the neighborhood.

I did two good 5 milers and a 6.2 miler in less than 10 days so I guess that caught up to me...plus the lingering on never ending cold/flu weakness...it was gone for nearly a week but towards Friday I began to feel 'it' again..not much but enough to make me feel old and slow (more so than 'normal')

James got to play again. He was 1 for 2 from free throw line and barely missed a 3...he was in Lubbock, Tx...lived outsider there from about 64 to 67 in Shallowater. The team bus broke down and a 5.5 hour trip became 10 hours. We did not attend.

He also made President's honor roll with 4 A's and a B. He said two of the A's surprised him but they made up for a few borderline A/B's that he got a B grade in the past so guess it evened out this semester.

8 AM

golf (Kickingbird ) 10:00 [3] 4.0 mi (2:30 / mi)
shoes: Skecher Golf

Cool and windy when we started but about 60 when I finished...wind started dropping and it went from overcast to sunny. Still had a steady south wind... later when I ran my right knee had a little tendinitis in it but nothing big so far. Ice and then will use the Aussie drain patches later...sucks a little of the 'juice' out of a swollen joint.
5 PM

walk trot (nice but windy) 38:29 [3] 3.5 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 880 WB 4

Right knee a little tweaky...figures...first time to run in shorts in two months or more and have a ache...tired from golf...noticed in the past year the round of golf is taking more out of me than it used to...the slow gradual but steady decline continues.

10 AM

walk trot (rest day pooped out) 1:04:14 [3] 4.1 mi (15:40 / mi)
shoes: Nike Zoom Trainer

One of those days where I start out with one type of workout and there is a dread inside me of doing it...basically I had in mind of doing a 5 miler either on the track or the OC Trail, but either one would have been quick due to location...but I actually had a fear I might be pushing too hard...I only started back to walk jog a month ago...so decided to do 4 in the neighborhood, but again even walk jog I dreaded...so I gave in to that dread as a sign I needed to walk only...breezy and warming up...to 60 for a short time this afternoon but started at 30 degrees this morning.

Thursday Jan 18, 2018 #

10 AM

walk trot (warmer and nicer) 48:50 [3] 4.35 mi (11:14 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Trail

Pooped...too tired to do ANY warmup stuff...I'll try to do it later as need to keep at it for as much injury prevention as is possible.

About 35 degrees...feels warm.

I was going to walk more and do only about 4...never got going quick (relative to my condition) but added 1/3 of mile...ran last 1.55 w/o stopping...or shuffled it...24:07 at 2.

10 AM

walk trot (super cold little wind) 53:26 [3] 5.0 mi (10:41 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

There was some wind...luckily not as bad as last Thursday...ran 2 OC Trail 2.5 loops the opposite direction as last week. 28 min first loop...about 25:25 second loop. Did not stop last 3 miles...ran about 30:30 last 3 miles considering I had about 14 layers of clothing probably close to world record pace if a nice sunny day and running in shorts and tee shirt.

4 PM

walk trot (fix the phone day) 1:03:35 [3] 4.0 mi (15:54 / mi)

James Iphone blew up...we spent hours trying to get it reset. Good ole technology.

Sunday Jan 14, 2018 #

6 AM

walk trot long (much nicer this Sunday) 1:10:35 [3] 6.2 mi (11:23 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Clifton 2

Last Sunday was brutal wind and it has been super cold past few Sundays...was 30+ when started and only a very light south wind that was not a big deal. It is still 19 wc so part of the 'nicer' is just getting a little adapted to the cold...still at about 12 through 4 miles...last 2.6 ran about 10:10 pace average...under 10 last mile.

walk trot (sunny warmer no wind) 43:54 [3] 4.0 mi (10:59 / mi)

25 with 18 degree wc but it felt 10 degrees or more warmer with the sun.

10 AM

walk trot (super windy and cold ) 55:41 [3] 5.0 mi (11:08 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 880 WB 4

2 laps of OC Trail. NW wind very very strong although second lap I was able to push into it better. Only stopped once or twice...I cannot remember...probably twice...second lap. Ran last 1.7 without stopping simply to get it over with although I was warmed up by then and my layers actually shielded me pretty good...plus I had 2 caps and a hoodie on my head so yes I did Charlie Brown it today.

26 degrees...25 to 30mph with 9 degree wind chill.

Wednesday Jan 10, 2018 #

8 AM

walk trot (windy again ) 44:14 [3] 4.0 mi (11:04 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

My steps felt tiny and my accelerations felt feeble but 'quicker' workout. Windy...average not the super windy I was afraid of but may blow in any hour now. Its only Jan...have the 2 worst months of Okie winter along with the frustrations of March and April wild swings of nice warm days to horrible windy wintery cold days again.

New Maytag washer being delivered today.

walk trot (super windy) 1:14:21 [3] 6.0 mi (12:24 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Clifton 2

Luckily only 1 mile into the wind...from 4.5 to 5.5 but it was blowing me to a stop nearly at times...not with gusts...steady wind...probably lost about a min and a half in that stretch...

At about 2 I looked up and saw what appeared to be bike headlight on the sidewalk...about 15 minutes before daylight at that point...jumped out into street...it was a runner with one of those 'miner' headlights on his head. Sundays is about the only day in the dark for me since I retired, but it seems sissy to me...although another part of me is curious if it is not cumbersome and does not feel weird on your head or cut off the circulation to your brain maybe it would be ok...I run so much slower in the dark now due to my shuffle drag foot strike pattern...
