Note

Anyone got any size 5.5 O shoes with dobs I could borrow for the weekend (Integrators are my favourite). If it's wet I'm going to die without them.

Note
(rest day)

2.5 hours sleep and a 4.30am cycle ride thanks to Rob's friends. So an enforced rest day it is.

Saturday Sep 26, 2009 #

Intervals 38:20 intensity: (5:00 @2) + (18:20 @3) + (15:00 @5) 7.5 km (5:07 / km)
ahr:172 max:193 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Wanted a lie in but was wide awake at 7.30 so got up and sneaked in a sneaky foxdal session before breakfast. Ten mins warm up (feeling stiff in right hamstring), 10 x 90 (30), 8 mins back and get showered to meet Ana for breakfast. Which I was late for as my perfect timing came to a miserable end when I found my back type was completely flat. Me and bikes are not a good match this week!

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

Lots of errand running including Ocean Terminal and back and a huge amount of walking.

Friday Sep 25, 2009 #

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Cycling in and back.

Running 56:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:36 / km)
ahr:163 max:185 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Really fun evening run with Kyle - great to catch up and a pleasant route down to the Water of Leith. We stopped about two thirds of the way round to help a man push his car, which was a bit random.

Thursday Sep 24, 2009 #

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Home from the lab.

Wednesday Sep 23, 2009 #

Note

Two hideous days, and today one vastly infuriating one. No time/energy to train.

Tennis 1:11:39 [2]
ahr:118 max:151 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

I was really tired and hungry today so I wasn't an energetic as last week. Apparently my ground shots are good - I might agree if I knew what they were!

Warm up & strides 10:00 [2]
shoes: Integrators

Bit of jogging about before my 11 man leg.

Orienteering 41:03 [4] **** 3.9 km (10:32 / km) +205m 8:20 / km
ahr:186 max:195 spiked:10/17c shoes: Integrators

My god. It's not my legs I need to worry about at the SHIs! I was orienteering (or not) like a total mental today. just legging it mega fast in absolutely the wrong direction, hitting lakes I shouldn't have been anywhere near, and then being massively confused. What a complete tit!

Orienteering 17:54 [5] *** 2.8 km (6:24 / km) +100m 5:25 / km
ahr:185 max:200 spiked:12/12c shoes: Integrators

Legged it round the orange for the third team, and was relieved to get it right, including the leg that you could take a straight line and actually navigate a bit. Quickest girl round, so maybe I need to work on brain as much as the legs before the SHIs!

Recovery 5:00 [2]

Very token warm down round the lake - pretty tired.

Friday Sep 18, 2009 #

Note

Can anyone give me a lift to the 11 man? I can get the train to Pitlochry, but it's either two hours too early or just a little too late for comfort. I'll get the train if not!

Cycling 22:00 [2]

Cycle is just about long enough to log again now I've moved to Gareth and Rosie Towers. No more crazy Olga, phew.

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Cycle home.

Running 24:54 intensity: (22:00 @2) + (2:54 @3) 2.8 mi (8:54 / mi)
ahr:152 max:183 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Evening run with rob. Going faster than a jog, Rob running really well. Did 3 sets of strides in the middle, which rob thought was hilarious but felt pretty good! This legs moving fast thing is kind of novel!

Wednesday Sep 16, 2009 #

Intervals 1:01:31 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (36:31 @3) + (15:00 @5) 12.0 km (5:08 / km)
ahr:164 max:193 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

5 x 3 minute intervals on the way to Kitch's - along the canal, up Criaglockhart (rep 3 a hilly killer!), through Hermitage and up the Grange. Thought the intervals felt good, HR more normal for the speed - just dont know how fast they actually were! Beautiful evening and felt really good to be out.

Running 55:25 [4] 7.0 km (7:55 / km) +484m 5:53 / km
ahr:187 max:197

Leg 2 of the Comrie Hills relays with Jess. Was a bit worried my lack of fitness would show, but in the end I kept with Jess (just about!) on the uphill and was running more strongly on the road, so I guess I'm maybe not as bad as I thought. It was really, really fun to run in some proper tough terrain, and I am itching to get back to some real orienteering!

Edit: Fastest ladies on the leg - yey!

Running 54:41 [3] 5.0 mi (10:56 / mi)
ahr:165 max:186

Run back from the start of leg 4 to Comrie, via the Monument. Got to cheer on Rosco the legend a good few times, who managed to not get beaten by a girl despite it being his second leg of the day! Brilliant day - if I'm still in Scotland I will be back next year!

Tennis 1:10:00 [2]
ahr:137 max:171

After aforcing him out running, it was finally my turn to look stupid in front of Rob. I managed to escape the lab for a couple of hours and we played tennis for free in Inverleith Park in the sunshine. I'm pretty sure Britain would be less obese these days if we actually had a summer, there were so many people out doing so much stuff in the park. It was ace! Back in the lab now though for another hour or so...

Friday Sep 11, 2009 #

Note

Uh oh...England are desperate enough to need me for the SHIs. I need to erm...do some running?

Running 28:46 [4] 6.7 km (4:18 / km)
ahr:189 max:203 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Hmmm...my legs felt good today but now I look at my HRM I'm a bit scared! Felt I was running strongly and that if I pushed hard I was actually getting a pace increase but woah...over 200! Either I am way less aerobically fit than I thought (which is possible, I can't remember my last intervals session) and my legs are just pretty strong from the plodding, or this sinus bungedness is about to turn into something more! It's a bit hot too. Still, guess I'll find out tomorrow. I would have been happy with this run if it weren't for the heart rates, so maybe I should just calm down!

Thursday Sep 10, 2009 #

Note

Today I have that horrible gluey sinus feeling where you can smell something weird in there all day. And a little sore throat. Bah!

Wednesday Sep 9, 2009 #

Running 22:53 [2] 2.7 mi (8:29 / mi)
ahr:151 max:169 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Rob suggested a run, so I went. I had forgotten I could do that! IT was very short but good to get out.

Monday Sep 7, 2009 #

Strength 1:30:00 [1]

The Great Escape from Communist Russia. Props go to Rob, Ana, Chepls, Kitch and Sarah B for starring roles!

Wednesday Sep 2, 2009 #

Cycling 23:50 [4]
ahr:154 max:179

Cycled up to Dumyat West from Bridge of Allan. I knew it was a big hill, but I had no idea it was THAT big! Very tough with flabby tires and a big heavy rucksac.

Orienteering 49:55 [3] *** 6.0 km (8:19 / km)
ahr:174 max:186

WEE at Dumyat West - not a particularly inspiring area of map and a bit of a disappointment. Trudged round through bog and tussocks very slowly, got a bit fed up. Nice views though. The map wasn't great, there was lots of extra little niches and things on the hillside, and a definite absence of things like ditched where the controls were supposed to be. Still, it was very good to get out and have a quick catch up with everyone, including a nice mid run natter with Fi.

Cycling 20:25 [2]
ahr:132 max:162

A much easier cruise back into Stirling.

Note

Today was shit.

I managed one day of my training plan!

I hate my PhD.
