running 44:00 [4] 5.75 mi (7:39 / mi)

Adel Church, again. Today I can run uphills. I still didn't feel great though and it seemed like hard work, but then I was going faster than I intended. It is hard to judge the pace - this run had a lower HR than Monday despite being 5 minutes quicker.

A big improvement anyway.

Monday Feb 27, 2012 #

running 49:00 [3] 5.75 mi (8:31 / mi)

Adel Church. Almost proper running. HR was a bit erratic and I struggled a bit going uphill (and they are only the very gentlest hills on this run), but I got up to a decent cruising speed on the long gentle descent back. Better, but still not very good.

Sunday Feb 26, 2012 #

running 24:00 [3] 3.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

A decent steady run, with a working if slightly wobbly heart. OK. School Lane and stepping stones.

Quite tired after a hard day's organising at Roundhay.

Saturday Feb 25, 2012 #

Note

Walking, 14 miles. From Archbishop Holgate School, York (because that's where I happened to be) to Tadcaster (just because). Doing it map memory which means I made a few wrong turns and wandered across a few fields. I did walk along a bit of the York city walls (with a view into some council flat windows and nothing much else), across the Millennium Bridge, across the Knavesmire, and past the sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Then it was just fields.

Friday Feb 24, 2012 #

running 25:00 [2] 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Similar to last night - except I was a lot more comfortable. I could jog quite happily at 10 minute miles but if I tried to speed up at all then the HR was stuck at 135.

Note
(sick)

Oooh I'm feeling quite ill now, but this is good, because when the cold goes my heart will be fixed.

running 35:00 [2] 3.0 mi (11:40 / mi)

Difficult to know where to rate the intensity. Lots of effort went in, nothing much happened. I could not have gone any faster. I did feel better for it afterwards, eventually. I had to speed up along Monkbridge Road to overtake a man who was walking.

running 22:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:48 / mi) +40m 8:23 / mi

Oxley. Very slow, but feeling a bit better. I have a cold now, which probably explains the problems over the last week. Palpitations often precede a cold but the palpitations ease off when the cold symptoms start.

orienteering race 1:24:25 [4] 8.0 km (10:33 / km) +310m 8:50 / km

Heart still not right. I was walking within 100 metres of the start and walked most of the hills after that, and even on the flat could manage no more than a plod. I got a bit better towards the end, but not much. A long way slower than I should be able to do, but at least I beat Richard. And I scored for the team. I was making a few careless mistakes too - not good.

Saturday Feb 18, 2012 #

running 28:00 [2] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi)

School Lane, Stepping stones. Heart still not right, could not go any faster. It didn't help that I got called by work at 4am.

Friday Feb 17, 2012 #

Note

Palpitations all day. No running.

Thursday Feb 16, 2012 #

running intervals 16:32 [5] 4.0 km (4:08 / km)

4 x 1k, West Park. Trying hard but nothing much happening, 4:09, 4:10, 4:06, 4:07. Heart went wrong at the end of the 4th. Started a 5th but aborted straight away and struggled home. Not good.

running warm up/down 23:00 [2] 2.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

Wednesday Feb 15, 2012 #

running 55:00 [3] 6.5 mi (8:28 / mi) +150m 7:54 / mi

Easy up to Adel Crag, at 8 in the morning. Easy enough until my heart went wonky in the last 5 minutes and I just jogged the last bit.

A lot easier without ice all over the place.

Note

Walk from Reeth up Fremington Edge. Nice but cold. Followed by ice-cream - rhubarb crumble flavour mixed with ginger flavour. Also nice but cold.

orienteering 37:08 [4] 4.2 km (8:50 / km) +135m 7:37 / km

Had a go at the Brown course from Sunday's event at Norland Moor. 37:08 puts me 40 secs behind Charlie but I doubt the times are really comparable. I was certain of all the control sites except 7, where I definitely found a depression that had seen a lot of foot traffic but it didn't seem to quite match with what was on the map - but I couldn't see any better depressions either. Most legs I was a few seconds either way from Charlie except 8. I went straight to it, must have lost time crossing the moor, nearly 50 seconds down.

Mikey, how did you miss 8? As you came over the edge all the boulders were set out for you like they were on the map - as long as you worked it out from the top it was easy,

hill running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)

Jogging around on Norland Moor

Sunday Feb 12, 2012 #

running 1:03:00 [3] 6.5 mi (9:42 / mi)

Home from Roundhay, by way of Great Heads Beck, the path by the Ring Road, Tunnel How Hill. Still well slippy. Also well tired.

Saturday Feb 11, 2012 #

running 58:00 [3] 6.5 mi (8:55 / mi) +150m 8:20 / mi

Adel Crag. Well slippy.

Friday Feb 10, 2012 #

hill running 1:01:00 [4] 5.0 mi (12:12 / mi) +450m 9:32 / mi

Continuous hills in Woodhouse Ridge, 8 x the loop from Switchgear Bridge, straight up through the terrain and back down the path. Hard work.

Note

Hamster got put down today. His last couple of days were very difficult.

Let me characterise the hamster : fearless, resourceful, sociable, intelligent, a credit to hamsterkind. I will miss him.

Evie is very upset.

running 50:00 [3] 5.75 mi (8:42 / mi)

Adel Church, slow and tired

Wednesday Feb 8, 2012 #

running 1:08:00 [4] 8.0 mi (8:30 / mi) +200m 7:53 / mi

Butcher Hill, Horsforth Station, Cookridge, Adel. My legs felt fine but my heart rate was too fast and I was a bit uncomfortable, and I had a few friction issues. Kept up a nice pace all the same.

Tuesday Feb 7, 2012 #

running intervals 20:00 [4] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +240m 7:17 / mi

I didn't want to run on the road because it's all icy so I thought I would go down the park and do sprints up the sledging hill. Turns out the sledging hill is the only place around with no snow on it at all, but I could still see well enough to run. 12 times up and down, about 130m and 20m climb. Not feeling great and the HR was a bit high.

running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 1.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Sunday Feb 5, 2012 #

running 1:22:00 [3] 9.0 mi (9:07 / mi) +200m 8:31 / mi
ahr:135

Kirkstall, Newlay, Hawksworth Wood, Clayton Wood, Boddington Fields, Meanwood. A nice long plod in the snow, no AF issues, a bit tired (and dark) towards the end. The snow slowed me down a bit - 4 inches deep in places, and slippy where it had been trampled because it was beginning to thaw.

Fine.

Saturday Feb 4, 2012 #

Terrain running 1:13:00 [3] 7.5 mi (9:44 / mi) +350m 8:30 / mi

Plodding round Woodhouse Ridge, Sugarwell, Meanwood Hospital, Meanwood Park with as much terrain and hills as possible. Struggling with a defective heart today, and happy just to get round without grinding to a halt.

Friday Feb 3, 2012 #

running 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:45 / mi) +200m 8:07 / mi

Just plodding out the miles. Butcher Hill, Horsforth Station, Cookridge, Adel. Both calves stiffened up towards the end. Very cold night.

Thursday Feb 2, 2012 #

running intervals 19:59 [5] 5.0 km (4:00 / km)

5 x 1k, 2 mins rest, West Park. Rested after 2 days off, and it was cold but dry. A bit faster this week. 4:01, 3:57, 4:02, 3:59, 4:00. Had a bit of trouble getting the HR up above 155 on the 1st and 3rd, but on the others it went up to 160 without any bother. Mostly fairly comfortable apart from going out on the last one where I suffered a bit and had to make up for it with a hard run back.

Good.
