Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back. Taking it easy before the weekend, so no more training.

Wednesday Oct 30, 2013 #

Gym 25:00 [3]

Short gym session before work, so that we could have a night out after work.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Slowly, find it hard after gym.

Running warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Warm up (run to hill in Royal Park), drills, strides, and very slow run back after session.

Running hills 34:00 [5]

6 x hills in Royal Park, jog down recovery. Feeling rubbish in the warm up, but actually running reasonably consistently in the session. Felt tough, bit of last minute training for the weekend ;-) hills all about 2.30 I think.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Usual

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back.

Running 40:00 [3]

MFR club run from our house with the boys and Jasmine. A little bit faster than I would normally run, but a nice evening and a good little route along the merri.

Running 1:25:00 [3]

A long (slow) run around the Yarra - headed out on the streets to Abottsford, joining the river at Gipps street. Stayed on the far side to Studley boat house, on some new tracks for me, with a detour round Galatea point. Straight-ish back from the boat house through Clifton hill area. Struggling today - my feet and ankles are giving me problems, and were sore throughout. Only had a few time where I felt like I was running a bit more strongly, otherwise it was a bit of a plod fest. Hoping Rob will be able to loosen off my feet later. I think my gluteus aren't firing when I am running, which isn't helping. Also, I think my body is still getting used to doing some gym work again. Sure I will be fine for the hills next weekend, as a good mountain and some views always inspires me.

Cycling 30:00 [1]

Cycling to Darebin Parklands for the orienteering and back again.

Orienteering race 17:05 [4] *** 3.3 km (5:11 / km)
24c

Sprint into Spring - the first event we have made it to of this series, and handily not far from home. Darebin is a great little area, and a good tricky course meant that Rob kept passing me.... again and again! Which kept me running hard. I had a good run, just loosing a small amount of time on a couple, and legs felt loads better today. Amazing what some sleep, and banana and honey on toast can do for recovery. Ended up 13th overall, but way down as fourth girl - 30 secs behind Aislinn.
Helped collect in controls after, trying to pass on to David (a Gorvett here in Melbourne, so has some orienteering pedigree in the family) a few tips for his forthcoming adventure race. Don't know how much help I was, but it was nice to do a bit of a warm down and good to meet him too. I reckon we can get him hooked on orienteering...

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back, plus some extra to go out in the evening.

Running 20:00 [2]

Was going to do more, but felt pretty rubbish. Its been a really long week at work this week, there hasn't been any travelling at least but I am pretty tired.

Thursday Oct 24, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back - bit of a busy week, didn't make training so went to the gym instead. Was then shamed at not going to training by bumping into Andy (club member) in the supermarket after... :-(

Gym 35:00 [3]

More gym work - core, upper body, plus a few lunges and the usual squats and deadlifts.

Wednesday Oct 23, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back, another fairly rubbish day weather wise.

Running 1:05:00 [3]

Slow and steady up the merri creek. Found some good muddy paths, but calves not so good on the concrete. Lovely evening in the end.

Tuesday Oct 22, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back - horrible weather, and very late at work so opted for a very good curry with Rob instead, just down the road from us. Result.

Monday Oct 21, 2013 #

Cycling 25:00 [1]

Back home from work.

Gym 35:00 [3]

A slightly tougher gym session, a few different exercises, more core and more weight on the squats and deadlifts.

Orienteering 35:00 [3]

Headed back out into the nicer top bits of Kooyoora with Kirsten, and tried to lay my number 7 demon to rest. Orienteered a lot better today, and got some handy tips from Kirsten about how to deal with the terrain. Really enjoyed this, glad we went back out, and we stuck to the slightly nicer bits which made a difference.
Another cracking day, and a great weekend out.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

Orienteering at Kooyoora - opted for the second furthest course, which took me a fair while. Found 1 fine, flaked 2, and then went wandering... basically, the forrest chewed me up and spat me out today. I eventually had to give in - I just couldn't find number 7, and was so hot I just couldn't relocate (I reckon I was less than 100m from the control, but didn't really have a clue). Pottered back to the car instead.
Proper thick forest in places (Oli would love it), and I alternated between nailing the controls and getting very very lost (and stuck). Head not really with it, need to remember to eat and drink enough before a Saturday afternoon event. Great area though, hard not to enjoy it really.
Had a really lovely evening camping out in the bush, and a couple of beers helped to re-hydrate me!

Gym 30:00 [3]

I appear to have joined a gym which closes at 6pm on a Friday so that everyone can go to the pub. So I dragged myself out of bed and went before work. Going to be sore tomorrow - upped the weights on the squats and dead lifts.

Cycling 25:00 [1]

Just into work after the gym - left my bike there for the weekend, off orienteering and camping, very excited as we now own an esky (cool box)!

Cycling 45:00 [1]

The 55th rider through this morning, and the 1999th through in the evening (pretty late on). Not so nice weather today, so obviously not as many people on their bike. Work and back via track.

Running 50:00 [3]

Warm up, strides, drills etc and long warm down half lap of Princes Park.

Running 30:00 [5]

On the track for the first time in a while. 2 sets of 4 x 600m with decreasing rest (4,3,2mins) then longer rest in between. Finally remembered how to run a bit faster on the track on the 6th one, and felt good for the rest of the session. Although that maybe means I just set off slower and had a bit more stamina than the others ;-)

Cycling 45:00 [1]

A rest day inspired by Jenny - still had to get to work and back though, which was surprisingly windy and tough. It is bike to work day here today - and a new counter on the bike path I go along said that over 3,600 cylists had been past today (and it was only 6pm). Pretty impressive, there was definitely a lot of people on their bikes this morning. On the downside, there was also a cyclist knocked off by the markets (seemed fine but limping - and lots of other cyclists helping) - the same place I saw someone nearly get taken out on Monday.
I am coveting a lighter bike, I seem to be the slowest person putting the most effort in. Maybe a truly retro bike wasn't the best choice when late for work.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back via track.

Running 35:00 [3]

Warm up, drills, strides and short warm down. Not feeling the running love today, my body is in shock from going to the gym.

Running 30:00 [4]

4 x 1200m in Princes Park. Was supposed to be recovery based on heart rate, but I stayed with Alex to help her time her heart rate, so had a bit more recovery than I should have.

Monday Oct 14, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back.

Gym 30:00 [3]

Short session, mainly core.

Sunday Oct 13, 2013 #

Cycling 1:30:00 [1]

Lots of biking around the marathon course to cheer people on. Great runs by everyone, but not inspiring me to do another one.

Running 45:00 [3]

A run out along the creek, then some short hills (x6) on the steep bit of the path to get the legs and lungs working. Bit pushed for time so still full from lunch.

Saturday Oct 12, 2013 #

Gym 20:00 [3]

Intro to the gym I joined, various squats and core exercises.

Friday Oct 11, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To and from work.

Thursday Oct 10, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To and from work via track.

Running 1:05:00 [3]

Warm up, drills and strides with the club, then an easy run of two laps of princes park (as I didn't want to do intervals). Ran with Andy, a club member who is doing the great ocean walk 100km race is weekend, so inevitably went a bit quicker than I would do on my own which is a positive thing.

Wednesday Oct 9, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

And again, getting warm on the way home.

Running 40:00 [3]

Feeling a bit better, so went out with Rob along merri creek (through golf course, back the other side). Getting warm, ran in shorts which was a novelty. It's also light now in the evenings thanks to daylight savings, which is a lot nicer.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back. Joined a gym on the way home, it's really close and on my way to/from work, so will try and head down a couple of times a week and get some core strength going again.

Sunday Oct 6, 2013 #

Cycling 1:30:00 [1]

An afternoon out doing shopping, errands etc. Down to Albert Park area (to check out a spare bed and other house items we are still lacking), then back through docklands and around the capital city trail. Legs feeling loads better today, they had some energy. Still got this slight bug, but its not really developed into anything bad, hopefully I can shake it off this week and put in a few miles before the Bright weekend.

Saturday Oct 5, 2013 #

Cycling 30:00 [1]

Around and about with Rob - taking in some festival of ideas talks, the Finders Keepers market and ice cream in the park. Nice weather, still windy, still feeling a bit under the weather.

Friday Oct 4, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]
(sick)

To work and back - was officially the slowest cyclist in Melbourne as hundreds of people overtook me up Canning Street. A bit poorly, but nothing too bad. Just feels like a bit of a bug in my head and top of chest.

Thursday Oct 3, 2013 #

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back. Feeling a bit ill :-(

Wednesday Oct 2, 2013 #

Cycling 50:00 [1]

To work and back home a slightly circuitous route (trying to get the best route still). Very windy. Succumbing to the bug that is going round work.

Swimming 27:00 [1] 1.0 km (27:00 / km)

It was incredibly windy on Monday night here (winds of 140kph in Victoria along the coast, not quite that bad but loud enough to wake us in the city). So I decided in my head in the early hours of the morning not to bike in, and to go a swim after work instead. I kind of forgot that if it was cold and windy for biking, it was going to be cold and windy for swimming. Pretty baltic in the pool. As someone at work said, Melbourne has forgotten it is supposed to be spring. I thought Blair controlled the weather in Australia, what is going on!
