Orienteering 2:06:00 [2] 10.0 km (12:36 / km)
shoes: Leona Divide

Hanging streamers in the Rouge Valley with Dan and Paul. We finished just minutes before it was too dark to read the map. Perfect timing! We were a little unsure of a couple of control locations, but I think it went quite well. The mosquitoes were really bad, and I forgot bug spray. Also, I had my first run-in with stinging nettles.

Running 24:00 [3] 5.0 km (4:48 / km)

In the ravine after dark. Not used to this heat. Still have the head cold.

Cycling (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Still not feeling great, but a little better. The good news is my symptoms are all above the shoulders.

Stretching 20:00 [1]

Running 1:00:00 [2] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Grid Shadow 8 2nd Pair

Run through the ravines at dusk. This was the first smog warning day of the year.

(sick)

I've felt a cold coming on for a day or two, and I felt really bad this morning. Decided against a planned long run because I hoped to feel better for a wedding this evening. Nothing like an evening of drinking and dancing to get over sickness ... we'll see.

Went to the rogaine workshop last night. It was great. Lots to think about during my run today.

Hiking 2:00:00 [1]

A great hike with Dan and Laura in the Dundas Valley. We made friends (or enemies?) with a brave little grouse.

An honest run to end a light week. Recent knee pains have reminded me to start core strength again, and stretch more.

Snapped a break cable on my way home.

shoes: Leona Divide

Run to G. Ross Park and a short cool down.

Orienteering 45:00 [3] 6.0 km (7:30 / km)

Lots of flooding in the park. Fun running through the knee high flooded woods. One really bad mistake. Followed a trail without double checking the compass.

Stretching 5:00 [1]

Knee bugging me.

Easy run in the Cedarvale ravine. I must not be used to running in rough terrain. My ankles and feet have been sore since Sunday. Too much city running.

Running warm up/down 40:00 [2] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Leona Divide

warm up, cool down, and picking up some controls after the race.

Orienteering 1:53:00 [3] 10.0 km (11:18 / km)
shoes: Leona Divide

Hilton Falls Hardrock. This was a fantastic race. I really enjoyed the course. I'm glad this race was individual starts. I find it very difficult to concentrate on navigation in the mass starts, and I tend to run much faster which leads to big mistakes. I managed to start first, and ran more than half the race by myself. I made a big error on the third control, but after that I ran cleanly until the 13th control where I lost 20+ minutes. I ran up and down the same wrong trail for a while before admitting to myself that I was lost. After relocating, I found the control within a couple of minutes, if only I had admitted I was lost earlier. By this time, a number of people had caught up to me, and I was quickly passed by both Nick and Mr. Pither. They likely started 30 minutes after me. I ran a little harder for the last couple of controls to finish it up. It was nice being out alone for most of the race. I can't remember the last time I had this much in a race.

Balfour and Moore ravines. My ankle is still sore, but I can't complain about this run. It was such a beautiful morning: such an intense sun after a spring rain, and fragrant blossoms.

To/from Sunnybrook.

Orienteering 53:00 [3] 6.0 km (8:50 / km)

TOC park night at Sunnybrook. I had problems with three of the controls, and did some standing around. Fun evening.

Stretching 10:00 [1]

Quick stretch afterwards.

Swimming 1:20:00 [3]

My swimming is in a sorry state these days. Compared with this time last year, I'm at least 10 seconds slower on a 100m! I don't think my general fitness is worse. My technique is just awful because I've done so little swimming.

Tweaked my ankle last week, but thought nothing of it. I must have strained a ligament. The inner side of the ankle was quite sore on this run and on sunday.

Running 1:06:00 [2] 10.0 km (6:36 / km)

Ran the Sporting Life 10 km with Laura. She didn't beat Dan, but they're already planning their next match. The highlight of the run was the steel drum band around the 9 km mark.

A fun afternoon cycling around the Hockley Valley with Dan. Lots of killer hills. We stopped halfway for a snack break, which really helped when fighting the headwinds back to the car.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Orienteering 1:17:00 [2] 8.0 km (9:38 / km)
shoes: Leona Divide

I ran a 2004 Thomass course at Starkey Hills South. A really fun afternoon. It was nice to really relax and focus on the navigation. I find I have a really tough time in the thick forest sections. I was turned around a couple of times and had to relocate.

I got 'thorned' twice today. One in the wrist that was painless but bled a fair bit, and another just above my knee.

Running 50:00 [2] 9.0 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: Leona Divide

I had planned on meeting Paul K. at Starkey hills and heading over to Limehouse for a hike, but he didn't show. Dan recommeded checking out the Bruce at Limehouse. I wasn't disappointed. Some old limekilns, and some really cool cliffs and crevices.

When I got home someone was moving into our apartment, so I offered to help for an hour; I have never seen so much Coca Cola paraphernalia. I must have carried close to 10 boxes labeled "Coke Bottles/Glasses", and then there was the animatronic sax playing CocaCola Santa Claus (weird!), the stained glass Coke lamp shade, etc ... You can learn a lot about someone by digging through their moving boxes. I imagine her apartment is a red hell, lit by CocaCola TM neon signs.
