GVRAT Update

I've officially passed the halfway point. I've worked my way up to 10498 place and actually have an estimated finish before the end of the race now.

Now I need to start biking as I got an email reminding me about the MS bike tour this year (which is virtual) and I'm not really ready for that. I also need to start fundraising technically.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 6.68 mi (8:59 / mi)

On the treadmill for day 2. I've been watching the Outskirtsvideos from Rapha, the second one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsC3ZKzObNQ) is them big packing across Labrador and Newfoundland and is quite enjoyable.

Added a few faster intervals during this without any issues.

Walked today followed by 10 min of strength. I'm stuck on the treadmill for a few days because Kristen is travelling for work.

Running 1:13:52 [3] 12.51 km (5:54 / km)

Another bit of a test day. Wanted to see how far I could run until I felt I should walk with my ankle. Was pleasantly surprised how well I felt at 5.5 so kept going. At this point I get to Bingeman's and run a lap through the property before coming back to the trails. I was actually worried I was still running when I got back to the trails. I was worried I'd have to walk in a km in the woods because the bugs were bad this morning. In the end I got to 11 km and then felt I should walk as the ankle was starting to get sore. Super happy with this progression.

Note

Went out for a run this morning, but around 3 k ankle was sore so walked. Started again after a bit and the pain was still present. I think we've learned 2 days in a row is what I can handle right now. So most of this run was a walk instead.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 6.13 mi (9:47 / mi)

On the treadmill while K-Way was out running. I tried to pick up the pace to do some speed, but ankle can't handle that just yet. Walked once in the middle for .3 miles. Otherwise felt good throughout.

Running 57:35 [3] 9.77 km (5:54 / km)

This was my first FDF run of the year. Man they were annoying.

Similar to the weekend I felt I needed to walk at around the 5.5 km mark for 500 m. I'm going to do the same the rest of the week and then test myself again on the weekend.

GVRAT Update
I've now officially passed the Buzzard (cut-off to finish) and in doing so moved all the way up to 11565 place. I'm only 1 day of missed running/hiking away from falling behind the buzzard, but still it was a small milestone. Now I need to build up a bit of a buffer. I'm thinking my goal may become something like seeing if I can get up to 6000 place before I finish or something like that.

Just walking this morning after 2 days of running. Did some back/ankle/leg strength shortly after before waking Aubrey up.

Running 1:20:03 [3] 13.16 km (6:05 / km)

Second run in a row. Walked 3 times when my ankle started to get sore. First time was just 2 km in, but then I was able to run 6 km before I walked again.

Running 1:11:40 [3] 12.13 km (5:54 / km)

Headed out today with the plan to run as long as I could until I felt my ankle getting sore. Then I'd walk 500m and repeat.
First run was just more than 5 km. Next time I walked was at 10 km. Happy with this as I felt this was also pushing my fitness rather than just testing the ankle.

Running 50:36 [3] 8.44 km (6:00 / km)

Same as yesterday except on a different route. Felt good with this. Going to try pushing this a bit more next run.

Running 44:06 [3] 7.66 km (5:45 / km)

Short on time. Did 2 runs of 3 km with walking in between. At the 2 km point I was ok, but by 3 I could feel the ankle.

Hiking/Walking 4:20:00 [3]

Since my running is limited right now I headed up to Hockley and hiked 1 loop. I wanted something that would push me physically for an extended time, but couldn't involve running. So I figured the hills of Hockley would work. A great day out and my legs were tired by the end which was the goal.

Ligaments on the inside of my ankle are sore after this weekend. Think I need a day off of walking/running to see how it goes.

Today's run went well. Walked 5 min ran 10 min, on the treadmill today because K-way was out running this morning. Think I'm ready to push the running again.

Running 1:11:00 [2]

I decided to increase the run time today as long as the ankle felt ok. So 2 km of running then .5km walking. The visit to the physio definitely helped as she spent some time manipulating my ankle to try to increase mobility.

In terms of going to a physio it was pretty unexciting. My appt was at 7 am so I'm sure normally it's pretty quiet, but there was only 4 people in the building from what I could tell. I had to wear a mask the whole time and she had a mask and shield on. I think she'll probable go through a couple bottles of hand sanitizer a day at the rate she's using it, or until she wears through all her skin. Otherwise I was in and out in 30 min and back to my normally isolated day.

My plan is to try running again tomorrow (wow 2 days in a row you say) assuming no issues the rest of today.

Running 1:14:43 [2] 10.27 km (7:17 / km)

Another step in a positive direction. I ran 1.5 km and then walked .5 km. I noticed on the last one I was starting to heel strike because the ankle was tired, this was starting to cause pain. When I corrected I was better.

Running 1:13:00 [2]

Another day and more progression.

5 sets of running 1.25 km with 750m walking in between. First 4 felt ok which is I why I tried one more and that was harder on the ankle.

Note

In my great "slow" virtual race across Tennessee I have just crossed the Tennessee river. My projected finish is still in September which means I'm chasing the Buzzard to finish on time, but I'm gaining on it now as I've been able to at least walk 10 km a day in the last week after a number of donuts after hurting my ankle and then my back.
6 AM

Running 1:20:00 [2]

Same thing as Monday except I had to do it on the treadmill this morning because it was thunderstorming outside. 4 x 1 km runs spread out in the total time.

Had a physio appt yesterday I'm now doing a lot of hopping (still on 2 feet for the first few days) and side to side movement. Taking out any work with the band now. We're going to have my appt next week in person which should be an interesting experience.

Running 1:17:00 [2]

My breakthrough today was that during my walk I ran 1 km 3 times. The first segment was probably the hardest because the ankle felt like it was full and limiting my movement, by the third one it felt more natural.
