Running 6:00 [3] 1.3 km (4:37 / km)

Run to Newlands to watch RideLondon at the time I'd have expected to arrive. 5 guys from CCC had just arrived, got see/chat to around 10 riders I knew. Best bit was standing alone 400m down Newlands, total silence apart from the swish of bikes flying past at 35-40 mph and the smiles and concentration on faces, with the view behind. Sold the idea of filming from there to the Meridan camera guy, who'd just been kept at distance by Boris's (knackered) protective entourage, though not sure if he managed rough terrain yomp down.

Running 12:00 [3] 2.5 km (4:48 / km)

Run from Holmbury CP to the Green at Holmbury St Mary to watch 3 laps of the Classic Race. Perfect - weather, pub, chat and viewing. Not many there, 3 separate groups made their way there from the Guildford Hash. Good day, was a little green at times, great weather for cycling, roll on 2014.

Cycling warm up/down 5:00 [1] 1.2 mi (4:10 / mi)
shoes: Giant A1

Discovered tool bag has gone walkabout since service, so didn't go to the WM group ride. Just as well, very much doubt my hand could have coped with normal gears and brakes. 80 mins is quite enough on tt bike. Came home raised saddle by 3mm and another 3mm after main ride. Now 695 tip to BB and 45 drop, same as competitive fit suggested ideal fit. Guess its taken time for certain muscles to adjust.

Cycling 1:20:15 [3] 25.1 mi (3:12 / mi) +390m 3:03 / mi
max:153 shoes: Giant A1

Newlands-Holmbury-Ewhurst-Smithwood-Town Centre(ugh)
Saw Argos Shimano team riding Classic in reverse at Gomshall, with two reserves. A few bursts and around 30% on aeros. Nice uneventful ride and missed all the potholes too - doctor's orders!

Only being able to ride tt bike has turned out to be a blessing - been surprised how long it takes to "acclimatise".

Note

Intitial physio on thumb and wrist - had been doing most of the ROM exercises already. Real benefit came from being manipulated into more extreme positions.

Had MRI scan in superman position - reckon 4 x 1200m track intervals are more ralaxing!

Note

Finally saw chiro (holiday) about misaligned lower neck. Taking it easy for a couple of days to let the muscles settle back to correct positions.

Stretching/extensions 5:00 [2]

A good habit I've let slip this year that partly explains poor running form.
26th from 27 yesterday, if 15s quicker then 4 places higher and then another bunch just ahead of them.

Cycling race (TT) 26:27 [5] 10.0 mi (2:39 / mi) +75m 2:35 / mi
shoes: Giant A1

Farnham Road Club - 10 mile TT - on Bentley H10/8 course - 26.27 PB!
Didn't start well, a 30 min tailback meant I made the start with 40s to spare and had a 100m warm up. Took me a couple minutes to realise the whistling wind was not a malfunction of the new pointy helmet, then my 30s man overtook at 1.5k. At least Rachel at 1 min only caught 8s on me. HRM not working properly, indicated a TH of 155. 14.25 to 5 miles, 12.02 to 10 miles, Target was to break 27 reckon 26.37 would be the equivalent of my best tt on the CCC course, so can claim this to be real PB. Very encouraging ride, worth close to 26 on a calmer or side wind day.

Time to name drop, none other than Magnus Backstedt (1.93m 94 kg powerhouse 2004 Paris-Roubaix winner) came past on a training ride and stopped to chat to a group of us. Camera phones appeared and he then proceeded to give our clubs star road racer a one minute lesson on how to improve his tt riding position, brilliant spot on observations. He's been invited to the Alton CC tt on Thursday - I'm tempted.
