Orienteering race 52:47 [4] *** 8.5 km (6:13 / km) +130m 5:46 / km
20c shoes: Swoops

BADO Regional event on Perham Down (army land), Short Brown course.
Was fun! Helped by the fact that I didn't have trouble finding any of the controls - nice feeling to have a clean run. Good course too.... with a couple of long legs leading into 6 short legs near the end. The wooded section was a little overgrown and I stuck to paths but they were actually super muddy tank-tracks so I was sliding everywhere in my swoops. Physically, I felt quite drained.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2]

5min warm-up and a 20min cool-down, in a final attempt to salvage October and turn it into a 20hr training month. Because we all know how much benefit you get from a 20min slow jog :)

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

In Stourhead Woods with Matt, after a morning in Wells and an afternoon walk around Stourhead NT gardens. Pretty Autumn colours :) Though would have looked prettier in the sun...

Running 1:10:00 [3]

Same run as last week - Blaise-KW Hill-Shirehampton GC-Dingle, first bit with Matt. Feeling sluggish; some mud stops (annual leave day again to do some study).

Running race (Bridge Inn 5km) 19:35 [5] 5.0 km (3:55 / km)
shoes: DS Trainers

Was running late so only got 2mins to stretch out the legs before starting! Unsurprisingly I didn't feel great and really noticed the uphill (most of the second half).

Running race (Exmoor Stagger) 2:28:29 [4] 25.0 km (5:56 / km) +1100m 4:52 / km
shoes: Swoops

Fell race in Exmoor - three big climbs including a steady ascent up Dunkery Beacon (and lots of down and flat in between). Nearing the top of the Beacon I sensed a large animal rushing towards me on my right. I thought it would have to be a scary dog but no, it was the biggest stag I had ever seen with massive antlers and it charged across the track between two men just in front of me. We all stood around for a while getting over the fact that we nearly died, and then kept running.
I pushed hardish but not stupidly hard which meant I was achey for the last 40mins but not in total pain :) The real amazing thing though was the weather - sunny!!! We were so lucky to have such a nice day (I still wore thermals of course). 7th lady (3rd in my age group :))

7 PM

Running (pavement) 15:40 [5] 4.0 km (3:55 / km)
shoes: Runners

B&W AC from Coombe Dingle - 2 x 4km road loops.
1st one - harder than just the 'tempo' run I was hoping for... the group of girls were a little competitive tonight and were running much faster than they said they would!

Running (pavement) 15:26 [5] 4.0 km (3:52 / km)

2nd 4km loop after a 4min rest.
Tried not to get overtaken by the chasing group but got overtaken. 'Half marathon pace' my arse!

Running 18:00 [3]

Down to Coombe Dingle sports centre (8.5mins) and home again after (9.5mins).

Annual leave day so I could do a bit more study. Meant I got to run in the light! I went.... around Henbury GC as usual, through Blaise as usual, KW Hill, Penpole Woods, around Shirehampton GC, back through Coombe Dingle.

Orienteering race (Blue Women) 55:44 [4] *** 6.6 km (8:27 / km) +200m 7:20 / km
14c shoes: Swoops

Compass Sport Cup Final, Burbage Moor.
Enjoyed the course and had a fun run (and won!); pushed hard but was scrappy in some control circles. Lost 3.5mins between c1 and c5 – didn’t read the map that well. Good for most of the remainder but lost ~1min at c9 (although many others seem to have lost a lot more so split doesn’t look bad!). The heather was tough going but a good challenge to run hard through it! BOK came 2nd in the CSC :D

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Runners

BOK training night, from Coombe Dingle Sports Centre.
45min score.... of the treasure hunt variety.
Lots of stopping and starting - more of a fartlek session than a hard run. FREEZing!

Running warm up/down 18:00 [3]

To the sports centre and home again with Matt.

Mendip Muddle (fell race).
Oh man, that hurt! The course involved two looooong climbs as it criss-crossed over the top of Beacon Batch. I was completely spent by the finish. 4th woman (won a cooler bag full of dairy products!).

Running 48:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Drove from work to some place in the east of town. On our run Matt took me to see some piglets he found the other day, but they were tucked up in their hut so we didn't get to see them. We continued on, I'm not sure where but it wasn't very nice.

Wednesday Oct 6, 2010 #

Running hills (grass) 6:00 [5]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

6 x 1min hills on Henbury Golf Course. A shorter session than it could have been as it was late.... but hopefully better than nothing :)
