Note
(sick) (rest day)

Rest day - well, got home from work just before 8pm so not much time to rest. Bit sick as well - hoping it will develop so I can score some sick days this week.

Running 1:16:00 [3]
shoes: Swoops

Team Monday run from Burrington Combe (pre-arranged so we could all be there by 6pm to start running).
I had to quicken my pace a little to stick with the boys: Matt C, Matt F, Keith, Charles, Mark, Paul. We did a loop similar to one I've done with Matt previously - this time anti-clockwise, going past the old hill fort first. The mist had really closed in even before we started, so no great views when we reached the trig unfortunately. Pretty dark for the last 10mins. Pub meal in Burrington after.

Running long 1:37:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Drove to Swineford between Bristol and Bath and ran from there. Up onto a hill, along the top past some monuments, down the other side, up again and back over the top past the race course and back down to the car. An ok run but nothing special - always just one paddock away from a farm, city, golf course or race course. Lots of zig-zagging around all the dwellings and wasn't impressed with some signs telling me there were bulls in the field (along the path). Does that mean I shouldn't go in there or what??! I was very scared.

Orienteering race (Short Brown course) 36:27 [5] *** 5.3 km (6:53 / km) +160m 5:59 / km
16c shoes: Swoops

South West Champs & Day 1 of the Caddihoe Chase.
Wareham Forest (down south near the coast and near Poole).
Tried hard to run fast, got pushed around by some ruts in some open sections and bracken in other parts. A couple of wobbles & should have gone around on a few legs. I enjoyed it and the sun even came out for the day :D

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Tennis 30:00 [2]

Against Matt at Canford Park. Smashed him, Again: 6-0, 6-4. Played for about 50mins until it was definitely getting a little hard to see!

Running (paths) 37:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Different combination/order of paths to usual so that the last part would avoid the dark woods. Ran hard for a little bit on a nice downhill grassy section :)

Wednesday Sep 22, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Got home late from work. What an awful month - why won't Aug month-end just END!

Tuesday Sep 21, 2010 #

7 PM

Running (paths) 55:30 [3]

Was really hard to get away from work. Managed a quick run from Ashton Court before it got dark - Leigh Woods, Abbots Pool, Ashton Court.

In Blaise.

Orienteering race 1:41:54 [4] *** 11.8 km (8:38 / km)
14c shoes: Swoops

Long-O in the Forest of Dean (Headless Hill & High Meadow).
Lots of path running which I guess is the nature of long-Os. Kind of good in a way as it (mostly) kept me out of the brambles. Still, I took some wrong tracks at track-junctions - oops! Was fun and I felt quite fit which makes a nice change.

Running (paths) 42:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Did the usual loop in Blaise plus another lap of Henbury GC to make the run a little longer. Pace was quite good and it was nice to run there in some sun light for once! Won't be able to run in Blaise after work for much longer...

Friday Sep 17, 2010 #

Tennis 30:00 [2]
shoes: Runners

It was all over in 40mins - I thrashed Matt 6-1, 6-2. Then we went and got chips for dinner :)
Ps. Thanks Matt F for the lend of the racquets!

Running 1:00:00 [3]
weight:55kg shoes: Asics Trail Attack

A run with Matt around Blaise / KW House. He showed me Blaise Hamlet which was a cute place (I liked the sign that said 'no picnics').

Running 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Snuck out for a run at Ashton Court after another horrendous day at work. Went over the golf course, to Abbots Pool, 50 Acre Wood and back through Ashton Court. It was too dark at the end though which slowed things down.

Monday Sep 13, 2010 #

Running 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Monday Night Run with Keith, Mark, Tim and Matt. I ran from home to the Britton's (10mins), then we all ran out to the Downs, through Sneyd Park to Shirehampton GC, then back along KW Hill and Blaise to home. Felt a little bit achey from the weekend :s

12 PM

Orienteering race 1:39:30 [4] *** 12.2 km (8:09 / km) +450m 6:53 / km
9c shoes: Swoops

Long-O on The Long Mynd (Shropshire).
I did the Medium course, and really enjoyed it. The terrain was open hilltops (some heather and bracken cover but with path options), with some steep gullies in between. I could simplify heaps and run really fast for most of the time, especially as I avoided the big climb on the way to c3. It was quite sunny and I got some nice views. Just glad my course finished when it did – I was getting pretty tired!

Tennis 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Runners - old

Played tennis with Matt at some local courts in Canford Park. We were actually really evenly matched (both crap!!). Was good fun and played for nearly 2hrs.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Blaise, Kings Weston Hill, Kings Weston House, Coombe Dingle, Henbury GC. Left ankle still sore and fragile from Venla!

Monday Sep 6, 2010 #

Running (paths) 35:00 [2]
shoes: Walshes

Gentle run through Blaise in the constant rain. At least it was a little sheltered in the woods, and the rain meant no-one was out and about so it was quite peaceful.

Running race (roads) 1:26:57 [5] 21.1 km (4:07 / km)
shoes: DS Trainers

Bristol Half Marathon.
Good race and pleased to get a PB, if only by 12secs!
Got a great starting position this time and passed under the start banner after 5secs. My plan was to just run and not look at my watch or count miles. It was pissing with rain but other than that the first bit was pretty good. The first mile marker I saw was 4 and at that precise moment the lead car on the other side of the road drove past with a massive clock on its roof saying 26.07, doh! I did some quick and incorrect maths and worked out I was doing really badly. So I tried to speed up a bit out to and back from the turn-around on the portway (all very flat and dull this section!). I looked at my watch at 6miles - 39.20 - shit that was a couple of minutes faster than I was expecting.... good, back on track. Miles 6-10 were fine (not easy, but ok). 10miles - 66mins. Then I just had 3miles to go which I thought would be fine - 'just a little steady 5km' - but oh god it was so tough... lots of zig-zagging around Bristol centre as well. Finally finished, woohoo!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Warm-up jog with Matt and Mike down to the start of the race from our car where it was parked in the burbs.
No cool-down; too wet and cold :P

Saturday Sep 4, 2010 #

Running (streets) 38:30 [3]
shoes: DS Trainers

With Matt and MikeS for the first 20mins, around the back of Blaise and down the 'gorge'. Then from Stoke Bishop I dropped off the back and made my own slow way back through WoT.

Running (streets) 30:00 [3]

A little jog to try out my new running shoes. The shoes were good but I felt shocking!
