Running 37:00 [3]

In London all week for a course: From the lovely Southwark travelodge (everything actually screwed to the floor or wall, and not even a telephone or hairdryer in the room) along the south bank of the river to Lambeth bridge. Lots and lots of people out - a lovely evening, but way too busy to actually run properly. Did a couple of minutes effort after I got past the queues at the London Eye out to Lambeth bridge.

In London... it is hot. I don't think I am going to be able to do much training this week, I anticipate spending most of it on a train, packing or unpacking, and working. Really really looking forward to Friday and a day off and a weekend in the mountains. Hopefully I will feel a bit more normal again then!

Climbing with Josie - we were both a bit pathetic really, but it was good fun. Need to build up some strength in my arms again...

Run from work up to Botanical Gardens (found an orchard I never knew existed in Broomhall on the way), and a small jog warm down.

Orienteering race 17:00 [4] 2.3 km (7:23 / km)

Sprint race around the Botanical Gardens. I have never run on an orienteering map here before, and the bear pit caught me out big time. Also got very confused coming out of it to the next control, and stood stationary for a while... good enjoyable course though.

A loop the loop tour of Burbage, from Burbage mines, on my favourite trods/paths/sections of terrain. Highlights included the forest, surprise view/Millstone edge, and the trod along from lady cannings to the edge. Forest was looking a bit rough - lots of windblow. I have to confess that even though I carried a compass and orienteering map the whole way, I didn't look at it at all. Feeling a bit brighter today, but still plodding.

This was supposed to be a long run, but felt pretty ill and run down today, so walked back down Grindslow instead and had a bit of a sulk to myself. Time doesn't include the walking, was out for a while. Edale, Ringing Roger and along. Slowly.

The start of the drills session - could only do a little bit as felt I should go to the committee meeting. Wanted to do a bit longer run beforehand, but didn't manage to get out of work on time.

A very rainy run, but with the bonus of Rob joining me, for the whole run! Along the top of Rivelin (near the golf course), along towards wyming brook. We were going to go to Headstone, but were getting a bit cold, so came back along the tracks and road and back down Rivelin valley. Lots of hilly zig zags around Rivelin at the end to get the climb and time up.
Rob earned serious brownie points for joining me on this run, which have been recouped literally in brownies. They taste good.

Extreme hills (a new Clare invention for getting fit...) - bottom of Rivelin up to top of Bole hill park (9.30), Rivelin up Rob's path to end of Mulehouse road (8.30), and Rivelin up to the top of Long Lane in Stannington (5.20).

All the bits in between, including a one minute warm up (well, we do live at the bottom of the hill). Bit of an effort down Stannington Road at the end.

A late run up to the trig on Loxley, as apparently I won't get fit for the Saunders just sitting around... Felt quite good, 18.30 up, bit of a rest at the top (nice evening - managed to avoid the rain) and 14 back down.

From Burbage Bridge, through Burbage, Longshaw, down to Grindleford, back up Padley Gorge, and up to Surprise view, back to the car via Higger tor. Really nice day, legs feeling a bit more with it today, and nice to get out in the peaks.

Running 1:10:00 [3]

Up Rivelin - after 15 mins I did 1, 2, 3, 4 min effort with one minute easy between. Then did an effort up the Coppice track. The plan was to do another coppice track effort, and reverse the session back down Rivelin, but it was sooo hot! I forgot that I don't really like running in the heat (until I get used to it anyway), and felt awful. Mooched back down Rivelin feeling a bit rubbish and demotivated. Now debating where/if/when to go out running today (Saturday).
