yoga 20:00 [1]

yard work 45:00 [1]

hoeing, shoveling, wheelbarrowing, raking

biking 15:00 [1]

walking 25:00 [1]

to church...................

feel good enough that i am wondering if i shouldn't run. the knees have been banged up for a long time, but the theory is whatever happened last weekend was an isolated incident not necessarily tied in to the
ongoing stuff. while that sounds a bit like a rationalization, I think I might put the theory to the test.

biking (trailer) 1:05:00 intensity: (40:00 @2) + (25:00 @3)

to Y, then city greens, and drop off bouquet of flowers on way back. steady rain at all times. Wore my rain gear, long pants and jacket and winter shoes, thought it might be overkill, but just right w/ t-shirt and shorts. Would have been fine much longer.

elliptical machines 1:10:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (15:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (15:00 @4)

Getting more used to it, but difficult to get a hard workout on this. Used the handle-less version to make it more like running and played w/ resistance, climb and stride rate. Never feels like a flat run anyway, so why not embrace the truncated stride and make it like an uphill run. Moderate climb and resistance coupled w/ 180 stride rate approaches soft tempo effort.

Note

Can't really pinpoint when the knee went over the edge, but it was after a long terrain/trail run. That puts trail runs at the very bottom of the list of runs to attempt, the list that has an easy jog around the house at the top. Very sad.

walking 20:00 [1]

jogged a few steps, no protest from knee! Not sure where to take it from here - start running again, little by little or hold off some more?

yoga 15:00 [1]

abs, phys. ther.

walking 15:00 [1]

actually feels good to walk after being on all those machines.

walking 25:00 [1]

walking 15:00 [1]

biking 55:00 [2]

errands, eye doctor...knee is just ok w/ moderate biking, but thats something!

biking 1:00:00 [2]

to printer, grocery, y, scrabble, running store on the fly...even icing knee while riding!

elliptical machines 45:00 [3]

fisrt, stair step type elliptical, then after 25 minutes when i realized my mistake, found another type that was a little more like running. Easier to get up to 180 strides per minute on that one, but a little crazy. front end of stride was constrained, heels were slapping, and lower legs stressed much more than upper legs and glutes....hard to get a hard workout out of it. If this is what the elliptigo is like, i probably wouldn't get it. But, not too hard on knee - and I guess thats the whole point.

Note

knee feeling surprisingly better, very encouraging sign, but would still characterize it as 'semi-trashed'

yoga 20:00 [1]

mostly abs. some hip flexor.

biking 15:00 [1]

very easy to pantry - range of motion on pedal is a little too much. kept pressure off knee as much as poss.

'weight' training 15:00 [1]

pushups. planks, chair lifts

walking 30:00 [1]
shoes: new balance fresh foam

man, it feels good just to move, and my downtime clock is running out. am looking into options, possible elliptigo. talk about dorky, but if it does the trick...

Monday Oct 6, 2014 #

Note

icing knee, patellar tendonitis worse than previously experienced, should not have run yesterday.

Sunday Oct 5, 2014 #

running 46:00 intensity: (23:00 @1) + (23:00 @2)
shoes: new balance fresh foam

prob. should have been a rest day, knee not good. supereasy jog to scrabble and back.
