Event: QOC Jug Bay

12 PM

Orienteering (Beer Chase) 52:46 [4] ** 7.0 km (7:32 / km) +10m 7:29 / km
ahr:148 max:160 shoes: O: Icebuds 2012

I wanted to have a good race and was psyched for it. Unfortunately, I have still a little tired/sore from yesterday's vetting.
I was one the fastest drinkers and first off the line. Several others were right with me. I was running hard wondering how long I would last. About 200 meters in Ken Walker passed me. I ran hard on his tail as I wanted the two "original" QOC jerseys to be one-two for the first control. Ken pulled away from me and by control 2 1/2 he was over 100m down the trail from me and that was the last I saw of him.
There were plenty of other people around. Jay Gelman was right with me and at least one other person. I got a little off on #5 and several people passed me. They must have been right on my tail and I didn't know it. Vido and Jon T passed me.
2nd loop, I passed Vido leaving the drinking area (I took the field and he took the trail. I caught Jon by doing the window controls in a different order where I benefited by having Jon's red jersey lead me in. At the end of the 2nd loop I figured I was in second.
The third loop I was tired. As I was by myself I also lost my motivation to keep running hard. I slowed down quite a bit. At the 2nd to last control Jon passed me again. I could have really pushed and still lost to him so instead I just followed behind him. I finished third.
3 PM

Orienteering (control pickup) 23:51 [2] 119.0 mi (12 / mi)
ahr:114 max:138 shoes: O: Icebuds 2012

back out to pickup 4 controls. I had to cross the marshes again. I was tired of having wet feet.
5 PM

walk (road) 50:27 [3] 2.34 mi (21:34 / mi)

Got home just as Darcy was going for a walk so I went with her. It was good to loosen up as I was stiff after driving home.
