Event: Mt. Tom
 

Orienteering 1:18:54 [3] 4.25 mi (18:34 / mi) +985ft 15:13 / mi

Score-O at Mt. Tom organized by Phil Bricker.

I wanted to do the 18 controls option, but it seems that I just didn't see a couple of controls on my way around the course, #4 and #11, to be exact. So that downgraded me to the Get-15 section. :-)

I started with a sore heel, but soon discovered that with all the uphills and the rocks, I was mainly landing on my forefoot, so why not try to run that way? Seemed to work OK, but the heel is a bit tender after the cool-down.

Nice course by Phil and the weather cooperated, although it was a bit chilly at the start.

Warm-up before weight work. Started very gently so that my elbow wouldn't be complaining right from the git go. That paid off as I felt comfortable for most of the time.

Weight work. I'm certainly noticing that my upper body has a long way to go to be considered strong. :-)

And that concluded my workout at the gym. Unfortunately, I seem to have bruised my right heel while running in Kennedy Park yesterday and could neither run, nor walk, on the treadmill today.

I certainly was not excited about getting out of bed this morning to go run the Turkey Trot in Great Barrington, especially with the stiff winds creating a 'real feel' of 7°F. So I stayed in bed for another half hour instead.

But as the afternoon wore on, I found enough motivation to head to Kennedy Park, where I ran the group run 5-mile loop. Only a light layer of snow, not enough to cause major slippage. But it was cold and my toes and teeth could notice that. :-(

Warm-up before weight work. Now setting the resistance at 5, instead of the higher levels that I had been using.

Weight work. Shoulder not complaining much, but the left elbow and right knee took up the slack.

Treadmill 28:41 [3] 3.0 mi (9:34 / mi) +318ft 8:41 / mi


Need to do a bit more mileage on the treadmill after the weight work; bumped it up a mile today.
