To swim and back. Gonna miss this little morning ritual.

Walking 5:00:00 [2]

Walk up the Goynuk canyon. More impressive jaggedy mountains and a rough rocky path up the canyon between. A long slog up to the first pass where I'd hoped to get up onto one of the tops, but time was short and the climb looked a bit too interesting. Back the same way and then a cooling dip in the pool at the bottom.

Jog down to the beach for morning swim and back

From the cabin to Olympus to do some touristing, then back for lunch and a siesta. Amazing place - very underdeveloped and full of character. Too hot for any serious running.

Walking 3:00:00 [2]

From the cabin up past the Chimera (eternal flames) and on to Ulupinar. More amazing scenery including grand scale rock gardens. Different again on red volcanic (?) rock. Another rough path with lots of climb.
Hatching a plan for Apr 2023... Gonna have to stay fit though.

Morning jog down to the beach and back for a swim.

Morning and evening. Ventured round the corner in the evening where I could get access to the next bay along. Completely deserted and very beautiful. Places like this could turn me into a swimmer or paddler. Sea dead calm.

Walking 4:00:00 [2]

From Finike up another section of the Lycian Way. Very different from yesterday but equally beautiful. Track was difficult to follow and eventually realised I'd lost the correct one but was still following a goat track in approx the right direction so kept going. Was short of water and it was very hot, so got s bit stressful, but eventually relocated to a big forest track higher up from where I should have been. Continued on to some ancient ruins on a hill top then returned by the big forest track.
Need to carry more liquid tomorrow.

Note

Eventually managed to get onto WiFi after complex 3 way phone discussions, as my very friendly hostess speaks almost no English, but is ever so keen to be helpful. Have just been presented with a beautiful pink Rose and sprig of mint as I sit here typing.

Ascent of Tahtali (Mount Olympus) with LJB. Epic day. Amazing scenery, wonderful flowers, glorious weather and good company.

Rounded off with a relaxing swim at a truly mellow spot at Cirali - home for the next few days.

In the sea before lunch. Flat calm and just beautiful. Ventured a bit along the rocky coast and would have gone further if I wasn't supposed to be in a lunchtime meeting. Scorchio.

Choppier again in the sea later, so tried out the pool instead. It was actually colder than the sea, so went back down and bounced around in the waves for a bti.

Along the sea-front to the waterfall and back the same way. Legs not feeling too bad. Enjoying the sun.

No meetings until the afternoon, so made the most of it with a run out along the sea-front. Had forgotten just how pleasant this was, with lots of little bits of park and paths away from the road. Must wander back along with my camera sometime too. Mountains across the bay looking enticing, and good to know I've got the chance to get closer to them this time. A very pleasant ~23C with light breeze.

Did 8 x 2' + 1' on grass / concreted paths. Hamstrings / inner quads still a bit sore from last week.

Swimming 10:00 [2]

Rounded off with a splash in the sea. Warm enough to stay in a while and good for the legs.

From home by DW to tennis courts. Was then going to run with J but no tennis for some reason. So continued on my own to TW, Coull, Mortlich, Low hill and back again by the DW. Running steady and the distance didn't feel too bad.

Orienteering race 18:00 [5]

Forest sprint at Dunottar. Was a bit of a blast and tried to run it hard to get a quality speed session out of it. Consequently had a few hesitations where I hadn't looked at the map, but all pretty straight forward. Tired on hills, but overall running ok. Enjoyed it.

DR handicap race at Dess. Need to do a lot more of this type of thing. Will try to get to some more of these Thu sessions.

DR at Glen T. Tried the first 2' rep and it felt like flogging a dead horse, so accepted that intervals weren't going to happen tonight. Not too worried -opportunities for some speed work later in the week. Did the 2 bridges and back by the mill pond. A bit worrying that I managed to take so long over it.

Note

Got a decent night's sleep in last night after foregoing my post lunch coffee. Might have to try and drop that little habit that's crept back in during the last year.

Maroc run from Easter Balmoral to check out terrain for the new map. Mix of track and forest. Not moving very fast through terrain, with tired legs on the hills. Pretty much dried up overhead and feeling much milder.

Got dropped on the way home at the CP between Dinnet and the gliding strip, and ran back along the DW. First 30' or so felt pretty good with the wind behind me, and ableto open up a bit more ont he flat track. Felt harder work from the middle of Aboyne but managed to keep going ok until the last hill.

Pleasant walk with E round Loch Kinord - swans, geese, toads, ducks and more people than I've ever seen before going round the loch. Out for 2ish.

14 x 1' + 1' up the Fungle. Jog back 3' before the last 3. Was feeling really crap on the w-u - body hadn't got going for the day - but was hopeful that the hills would be ok once I got going, and they were.

With J from the tennis courts to foot of Fungle, then back by Cistern track and round the loch. Felt much better by the end.

Travelling home. Weather has turned (snow on the island hills) so good time to get out. Can't believe what an amazing week we've had. Already planning the second half up through Harris and Lewis, but I guess we couldn't hope to get conditions like this again.

Easy last day. Cycled across to the west of the island in the morning to check out the beach, then down to Lochmaddy after lunch. Nice morning but cloud came in to give us our first 10' of rain as we set off after lunch.

Short loop from the hostel at Lochmaddy. Did this in the wrong direction as it was all uphill and into the wind :-)) First 50m felt good but then realised I was shagged. Good to know that I must have done some work this week.

From Nunton across N Uist to Berneray. Another stunning day which was just as well as we had a long way to go. Wind dropped and warm in the sun. Saw an eagle on N Uist and first seals on Berneray. Worth the effort to get to Berneray - nicest spot so far and an idyllic setting for the hostel. ~35 miles cycling.

Woke early and the sun was streaming in the window, so got up and went for a pre breakfast run. Along the machair, then inland to Loch Druidibeg. Lots of birds on the water but no otters out to play. Another beautiful day.

From Howmore north onto Benbecula to Nunton. Cycling into a cold NEasterly for part of the time, but lovely out of the wind. Another ~ 20 miles and a 2 beach day for E. Sun felt warm tucked under the dunes on the beaches.

From N Glendale to Howmore with a wee detour along a side glen en route, and by the back roads through the machair latterly. Not quite so bright today, but dry at least. More beach for E once we got there.
~ 20 miles again.

From Castlebay to N side of Barra, ferry to Eriskay, and on to N Glendale on S Uist. Stopped on Eriskay to walk to the high point for a view and at a beach on Uist for E to play while J snoozed. Beautiful day with wall to wall blue skies, if a chilly wind.

~ 20 miles on the bikes.

Road cycling 45:00 [3]

Warm-up cycle with E for our Hebridean tour. From Oban out to Dunstaffnage castle by the new cycle track and back again the same way. Lovely day but wind cold.
Highlight so far has been the whale in the bay. Out to Barra this afternoon.
