This may be my highlight of 2019...
6 PM

running (Morialta) 33:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 19

Exclusive sojourn to First Falls (totally dry, but a little pied cormorant and a white-faced heron were enjoying what's left of the pool at the bottom) while the kookaburras laughed at me because I'd overestimated the number of others who'd be at running tonight, by 100%.

Mitcham & back before work. Seems like last week's coldsore malaise has finally abated.

orienteering (Smiths Reef) 57:24 [3] 7.0 km (8:12 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon bluegreen

Yesterday afternoon I hopped on a plane to Melbourne, picked up a hire car at Tullamarine, and after a couple of false starts in finding my way to the Calder Fwy, headed to Castlemaine where Kate Radford and boys are staying with her parents for a couple of weeks. This morning, for Kate's birthday, she & her dad & I went for a run near Maldon on the course which Tony & Alison had set for an event there 18 months ago. It was lots of fun in lovely open forest, complete with spiderweb facials, and I tried to maintain pace & focus which worked pretty well until I caught up to Kate and briefly stopped paying attention, causing confusion on a shallow gully. All good though, and Alison brought Henry & Darcy across to meet us afterwards so we all had coffee together & explored the markets in Maldon. A bit sad to go back home this afternoon :(

swimming 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)

Before AOTKM and packing for a flying visit to Melbourne! Very windy overnight so there were lots of branches down when riding there and lots of gum leaves floating in the pool.

orienteering (Goodwood Twilight) 30:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Was looking forward to running around the Cazzolatos' courses/map (starting from the swimming pool) but knee/ITB just wouldn't - even after riding there as a warmup - so after many stretching stops and some Cliffy-shuffle I called it quits at 12 controls on the scatter (might go back & do the rest on a cooler day). Anyway, Vanessa & Tobias came back to ours for dinner afterwards which was lovely :)

Note

I've been meaning to share this for a couple of weeks because it's too cute to keep to myself:
Running along the footpath and I came up behind a father pushing a double pram with girls maybe 2 & 3 years old, so I bypassed him on the street. As I did this, I heard the little kids say
"She's on the road!"
"You shouldn't run on the road..."
"Be careful, lady!"

Made my day :)
6 PM

orienteering (Flinders Uni North) 48:30 [3] 4.9 km (9:54 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Test running my Sprint Adelaide courses with the help of Ben & Toby, who were much faster than me (unhappy knee/ITB) and provided some good feedback on route choices and map corrections. Orienteering is fun!

running (Belair) 51:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Casual conversational plod with Zara (and Callum, the silent partner). Not sure that we had the full complement of functional knees between us but our tongues were working just fine!
