O Training (Beer Chase - hang boxes) 1:45:00 [2] 4.0 mi (26:15 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Hanging the control boxes before the Beer Chase. Started raining during my second loop. Preferable to the heat, except my glasses fogged up.

Orienteering race (Beer Chase) 1:29:42 [3] 6.6 km (13:35 / km)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Mass start, teaming up with Heidi and Darcy. Technically, the only part of the course I didn't have prior knowledge of was the "beer split." So, I went for it and scored high. Burp.

Rained throughout, but again, that was better than heat. Company was excellent, and prevented me from messing up the same controls I had messed up this morning.

Fairly fatigued from the work already put in this weekend, If Heidi hadn't been there, I would have set a slower pace, but she kept us honest.

Now, for this week, the plan is to spread this activity out over a few more days, instead of doing everything on Saturday and Sunday...

O Training (Fountainhead) 30:00 [3] 1.8 mi (16:40 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

It was "touch and go" this morning, but I managed to get out of bed and on the road by 8 AM. Went back to pick up the control bag we left out last weekend. Blew by the trail I meant to turn on, and then made matters worse by trying to make things match up. Finally backtracked and got it.

Trail Run 12:30 [3] 1.0 mi (12:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

Ran back on trails from the control location.

Trail Run (Bull Run Marina) 1:36:30 [3] 6.9 mi (13:59 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

Parked at Bull Run Marina parking lot and took the blue trail to Hemlock. Picked up the two controls left there last weekend. Very warm day. Worst part was crossing the soccer fields both ways. With games going on, there was no short cutting across.

Had 20 oz of gatorade - wished I had some water as well.

Misc (THE DVD) 40:00 [2]

Snuck it in. Still short 1 for the week, or 2 depending on how I look at the week... Wanted to stop at the "stabilization/back" section, but I toughed it out.

I believe a raccoon was living in our chimney last year around this time. Every night for weeks, it would climb up the drainpipe and across the roof over my bed. I encouraged it to leave by pounding on the grate with a wrench, and, we cleaned and capped the chimney. So, this breeding season, it has moved to the annex just outside the fence - a tree which snapped in half.

Here are a couple of pictures of the mother. We saw the kits for the first time yesterday evening - no good pictures yet.

Misc (THE DVD) 40:00 [2]

Session showed that I am sore in unexpected places, like the side of my thighs. Was able to do it all, but was very tired by the end. Trying to avoid a repeast of last week...

O Training (Blockhouse Training 5) 1:40:00 [2] 4.25 km (23:32 / km) +260m 18:01 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Stolen from peggyd's log:

At Blockhouse Point Conservation Area, with the "OLTC", today being made up by vmeyer, maprunner, disorienteer, Heidi, and me. Nadim set a short course for us with 10 controls and we took turns leading to controls while the rest of us followed along on our blank maps. Since Valerie, Mary, & Lisa had done a bunch of training in the heat over the weekend, we went slowly (walking, mostly; some easy jogging on trails and when the woods were very open & we were going downhill). Nadim put out controls for us, which was very nice. We all enjoyed the training. I was not inclined to be running so the pace was cool. I love that the women are training together. :-)
Warm but not hot -- under 80 -- but humid. Overcast. Felt okay at our speed in the woods.
