Battery Creek - 1:10'000

This is going to be one of my favourite runs for the year. Overcast and drizzly conditions made for great running. Started at the northern end of the map and first few controls swung through the diggings area. Then 6 controls in the forest and the remainder in open rocky terrain.

No problems apart from a short hesitation at #5 with a lack of definite detail in the area approaching the control. Caught and passed Christie (+3) here. I got sight of Carl (+15) and Paul (+6) exiting #12. Got into a proper pack line from #13, also with Mark V (+9). They led me into #15 and #16 before I took the lead exiting #17. Nerve-wracking stuff as we also caught Andries (+18).

Approaching #21 I had misread the description sheet by 1, so was looking for a boulder instead of a re-entrant. Stopped dead for a few secs until I worked it out and realized I was already in sight of the control. Led out to #22 and used path bend as AP, dropping down the slope to the feature. No control however and the 5 of us started searching before Carl darted out of there. We worked out he must have got it, despite being much higher up the cliffs. I was the lowest down the slope, so punched quite a few seconds after all the others. Then had to slowly claw my way back into the pack on the long road to #23. Caught everyone again 23-24 as they plowed through the densest part of the undergrowth and I ran around. Paul won the sprint finish, I got 2nd.

Great fun being in a group. That hasn't happened for a long long time. Got 2nd overall, about 6 mins down from Tim.
