Cycling 49:31 [4]

Cycling. Up Sierra, then Avro, then Sierra, then Avro, then Sierra. Warmest day for a while and quite tough. Struggling a bit at the top of the last 2 hills and legs tired afterwards.

Sunday Oct 28, 2012 #

Running 1:17:50 [3] 15.0 km (5:11 / km)
shoes: Saucony

Started at end of Tapestry Grove - standard route to the bottom of Stokes Valley - up the new track - back via top of Avro, bottom of Avian. Very sluggish to start with, but started feeling better once the climb started and running quite hard later. Running downhill at a decent speed without any pain at the end. Best condition since the injury.

Cricket 1:00:00 [1]

First cricket match of the season vs Hutt Districts at Delaney. Captain for the day. Felt easier fielding than at any time last year, but didn't bowl. 0 runs - a good ball but partly distracted by cramp in my left shin - bizarre.

NB Have decided to put time down as roughly 1 hour plus batting time. A long game today - nearly 7 hours.

Thursday Oct 25, 2012 #

Running 1:01:22 [3] 10.0 km (6:08 / km)
shoes: Saucony

Up Avian, exploring some of the dead ends and discovered a new track almost all the way down to Pinehaven. Straight back up, then down Avro. No problems with knee at all, and coped OK with the climb which was fairly brutal. Disappointingly and typically for NZ, the track ended up in someone's backyard, so won't be able to get out at the end. Grrrrrr!

Wednesday Oct 24, 2012 #

Running 1:03:58 [3] 12.0 km (5:20 / km)
shoes: Saucony

up Avro, down to the pylon above Stokes Valley (the longer route), back teh shorter way and down Avian. Knee playing up slightly - a little bit sore after lots of prodding by the physio this morning. Hopefully that's the last visit to the physio though.

Tuesday Oct 23, 2012 #

Cycling 58:29 [4] 25.31 km (2:19 / km)

The Whitemans Valley loop, ACW this time. Kept trying reasonably hard and still surprisingly strong up the hill at the end.

Sunday Oct 21, 2012 #

Running 48:55 [3] 10.0 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: Saucony

The Cannon Point loop clockwise from Totara Park, including the Trig Point. Legs fairly tired but tried to keep a reasonable tempo. Starting to feel like training as opposed to just running. Supposed to be the first cricket match of the season today. How much rain?

Getting frustrated by lack of orienteering.

Saturday Oct 20, 2012 #

Running 1:48:10 [3] 16.02 km (6:45 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus

Dry Creek - Boulder Hill - round the Kilminster Valley loop (CW) - Boulder Hill - Dry Creek. Legs a bit tired to start with, but OK after the first few minutes. Felt reasonable the rest of the way. Knees were both OK, though was a bit hesitant downhill. Slowed down a lot in the middle by cows with very young calves - couldn't follow the main track and had to walk at times.

Friday Oct 19, 2012 #

Running 54:09 [3] 9.0 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Saucony

Dropped off at bottom of Blue Mountains Rd. To water tanks via Tapestry Grove, up Guildford Spur, down Avian (bottom half only). Left knee seems to be fine. Right knee was a very little bit sore most of the way. Cold (7C) and wet.

Wednesday Oct 17, 2012 #

Running 1:09:20 [3] 13.0 km (5:20 / km)
shoes: Saucony

Up Avian - down Guildford Spur - Tapestry Grove - Blue Mountains Rd. Feeling pretty good. But left knee (patellar tendon) started feeling sore going down towards the water tanks. No specific incident, but quite sore down hill and sore afterwards.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2012 #

Cycling 57:30 [4] 25.3 km (2:16 / km)

The usual Silverstream - Whitemans Valley loop. Puched fairly hard to try to get under an hour. Surprised by the time, but was pretty tired afterwards. Stiff NW breeze, so the last bit was tough.

Sunday Oct 14, 2012 #

Running long 2:00:48 [2] 20.17 km (5:59 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus

Up Avro, down the new track to Stokes Valley, up the valley via the Cricket Ground, up the Kamahi St track, back along the ridge and down via Avian (only the lower part).
Knee pretty much OK apart from a few minutes going down to Stokes Valley. Very wet & slippery - forced to walk at times to keep from falling. No problem with the distance.

Saturday Oct 13, 2012 #

Running 1:00:43 [2] 9.0 km (6:45 / km)
shoes: Saucony

St Pats Forest from the Southern entrance. Attempted to do usual loop up the hill to the junction then anticlockwise around the loop up to the top of the hill and back. Thwarted by new forestry work in places and some clambering across log piles etc. Ended up coming down the steep way to avoid the obstacles on the main track. All very wet and hard.
Knee not enjoying the downhills.

Friday Oct 12, 2012 #

Cycling hills 40:00 [4]

Up Sierra, up Avro, up Sierra, up Avro.
Feeling prety good after the first one.

Thursday Oct 11, 2012 #

Cycling 30:00 [1]

Cycling with the boys around Wainui MTB Park. Good fun - would be good to come and do it properly sometime.

Cricket 1:30:00 [1]

First net session of the season. Knee seems to be holding up to bowling, although there was a little pain at times, particularly when trying to bowl quicker ball. Batting not a problem.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2012 #

Running 1:00:48 [3] 11.0 km (5:32 / km)
shoes: Saucony

Down the hill and down the track in Pinehaven reserve, up the steep bank to the water tanks, up Guildford Spur, down the top half of Avro, then Avian. Knee coped OK with the long downhill, though not completely pain-free. Otherwise fine.

Sunday Oct 7, 2012 #

10 AM

Running 40:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Saucony

At Well. College etc testing WC legs. Still can't go flat out downhill, but can now run well enough to get some decent timings. A loop round Mount Vic to warm down.

Running 20:00 [5] 5.0 km (4:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony

Saturday Oct 6, 2012 #

Running 1:10:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Saucony

From Dry Creek, around the loop anticlockwise, then up to the top of Boulder Hill and back down. Knee feeling fine though left calf quite sore.

Thursday Oct 4, 2012 #

Cycling 1:00:20 [3]

The Whitemans Valley - Silverstream loop (ACW). Pretty good. Getting the bike serviced has made quite a difference - similar effort would have taken 65 - 66 mins previously.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2012 #

Running 35:00 [1] 5.0 km (7:00 / km)

The kids night race at Tunnel Gully. Shadowing Oli & Andris, which was very slow at the start as Oli had stomach cramp. Knee still sore, and a bit stiff in general.

Tuesday Oct 2, 2012 #

Rogaine long 3:04:47 [2] 25.0 km (7:23 / km)
shoes: Vasque

Rogaine - Crofton Downs, Ridgeline, Tinakori Hill etc, with Yvette. Not too bad most of the time but rather foolishly chose to climb Tinakori Hill at the end. Got fairly bad cramp, mostly in left shin and calf, and couldn't then get back in time. Also knee got a bit sore descending on roads at the end while trying to stave off cramp.
