Do you consider it hard on ski bottoms? Seems to remove any & all wax pretty well if crust is quite hard (that was my recent experience a on a crusty golf course). How important is wax if crust is hard enough to just allow an edge?

Yeah, probably does dry out skis. I'm on my rock skis, so not caring so much, but your skis would probably appreciate a nice hydrating wax coat after a crust ski.

And to arm them better for crust skiing, you might want to use a wax that's harder (colder) than proscribed for the temperature. At least it wouldn't wear away as quickly... and if it's icy you're probably going about as fast as wanted anyways!
