You can eliminate the stops at George Mason and Columbia Pike by using the Four Mile Run Trail in that area. The trail is a little more interesting unless you prefer straight and flat. It is a decent loop.

Thanks, I will try that next time. Yesterday I was indeed in the mood for straight and flat, though I didn't realize that would mean a roadside section with lots of crossings.

No problem. I usually switch to 4MR in Glencarlyn Park and you can take it all the way to the end in Shirlington. There is no bypass for Walter Reed.

Also not sure if you realize but you can cross using Key Bridge as well. Might help getting around the Kennedy Center.

Looking at your location it another nice loop might be out CCT and back Rock Creek, or vice versa. Not too familiar with riding in Rock Creek though. I actually might try that myself next time.
