Great photos! Especially the action shots. :-)

Why are the tracks so far off on the way to 8, but right on at the controls? Do you pin the track to the control locations?
I like the photos too!

I had many similar errors, including making the wrong choice by NOT going around the mountain laurel. The fog did add a different element..."is that a pond over there or a top of a cliff?" It was safer to slow it down a bit before I walked off the edge of something! West Point has always been tough for me. Comparing myself to myself, I have to say I did ok. Nice photos!

Yes, Roger did a nice getting the action pictures at the finish. Of course, they are all of me. :) It was an awesome finish, despite the uphill. And, it is one of the first times Roger was waiting at the right time, being that my finish times are so hard to predict.

Barb, the tracks being so far off there is odd in that the other stuff lines up fairly well. I pin the tracks at two different points, and the part showing how I came out of 7 to the trail is correct, and the rest is just way off.

Sandy, as I was messing up 2, I started having doubts that I was actually looking at the pond in the fog.

It's not inconceivable that the map could have some distortion. Might be worth comparing it with satellite photos. Maybe the trail is just mismapped by that much. It would certainly be interesting to know. O maps have some degree of error, and so does GPS, and it's useful to know which is larger. The gold standard is satellite photos, unless someone has reason to believe otherwise.

Are you using Gartrip for these maps?

vmeyer:
Yes, Gartrip.

I got the same result when I put the tracks onto a topo map with Topofusion, and with the new program being listed in the discussion index. The GPX tracks are available at

www.vmeyer.net/ostuff/wp2008/2008_sunday_greeny.gp...

The FR 205 was set for "every second" recording, so there were no large gaps. If anyone else has tracks they want to send me, then I'll see how they look compared to mine.
