Loved the full story and pics about the gorillas.

And the whole trip, not just that day but all the way to get there (and back), there's one sentence and then it all makes perfect sense -- "I've loved gorillas ever since I was a kid and I always said I wanted to see one in the wild."

Bravo, bravo, for actually doing it. Really cool.

Thanks Peter. It feels nice to cross off an item on the bucket list. We were fortunate that we now have the time and money to do this.

I agree with all this, what a great trip!
When I went to Rwanda it was for work and even though we did some touristy things, seeing gorillas wasn’t on the agenda. (Seeing genociders … that was! Also, this was right after the genocide and there was a [pitifully small] bounty on our heads as Americans. Glad we didn’t learn that until we were leaving.)
I thought Rwanda was one of the most beautiful countries I’ve seen. So green!

Mary didn't write about one of the gorilla highlights. So I will.

When we were getting near the gorillas, the ranger had us all stop and leave our packs. He then went over the rules for the visit (for example, you can look the gorillas in the eye, but you can't touch a gorilla). He handed out masks we had to wear around the gorillas. After he'd gone over the rules, he asked "does anyone see a gorilla?" We looked around and sure enough, a gorilla was in a tree not far from us. Mary looked up and spotted the gorilla and was thrilled. It was really fun to see Mary's face as she spotted that first gorilla.
