Waffling about whether to go. Dealing with a very sore L glute and ham, but as I walked around this am it seemed to loosen up a bit.

First we did two rounds of 10 wall squats, 10 air squats, 10 goblet squats, 10 pressups, run 400.

Next was cleans, and after some warm-ups, 5 sets of 2. Worked my way up to 85#. Not the most I could do, but I was on the verge of form issues. Got all the way down into a squat with them, and I thought they went pretty well. My OLY coach Rick Stebbins would not have been impressed with my form, I'm sure.

Then we went to snatches, same drill. 45# was the most I did this with, and I have real back and shoulder flexibility issues that limit my ability to get down into a squat without the weight pitching forward. Just toward the end I got the weight moving a little better.

Note

A very pleasant and unexpected visit from PG, heading home on his way from Litchfield. As he is recovering from his latest trip under the knife, it was not necessary to entertain him with a trail run or other vigorous exercise, so just a chance for two friends to sit a moment and chat about things. We used to have more of these encounters sandwiched around golf, back when I played. An excellent and brief visit, and almost enough to make me want to play golf again.

Raid the Sanctuary at Westmoreland Sanctuary, put on by Neal Dobbs. Interesting format. This was a team race, and I went with biggins. Excellent company. There were two races, the Viking - about 6 K, and the Barbarian of about 14K. We went for the shorter one. The race involved a short loop on the o-map (Map 1), then a loop on an aerial photo (Map 2) of a school adjacent to the map on the N, then back on the o-map for a little scramble area and a few final controls. The longer course did much of the same, but then had a combination score-o and line-o to the south. A good workout. We got around fairly promptly, but no match for Erin Schirm and his partner who smoked it in about 39 minutes.

Map 2

On Map 2 one can hide the route choices and see just the map. Map 1 wouldn't load in DOMA without the route choices. Sometimes that happens. Don't know why. Not much route choice anyway. Follow the trails.

biggins flew in for a wedding last night, and showed up today on 3 hrs of sleep. Didn't seem to slow him down. He would not have been the most jet-lagged participant. Pavi flew in from Bulgaria yesterday.

On the bike path from Granby, catching up with my old friend Damien. Quite a fine rider in his day. Like me, having to start somewhere.

First time back in a week, I think. Today's workout was 40 wall ball, 20 pushups, 30 WB, 15 PU, 20 WB, 10 PU, 10 WB, 5 PU. Wall ball and pushups are a tough combination. Forearms get way too much lactic acid buildup. Ultimately I think I may have been the slowest one at this, although I was the only one who did the pushups from my feet and not my knees. No Rhonda this morning. I dropped her off at the airport at 6 on her way to TX to visit family.

Thought I would take the dog for a couple loops, but after one loop my L glute and hamstring were sore enough that it seemed like a good idea to stop.

slept:8.0 weight:158lbs shoes: VS Oly shoes

First good sleeping night since we got back from Germany.

Trip down to Greenwich with my friend Dave to see the oly lifting coach. This is way too much travel time, but the guy is very effective. I don't think I'm going to be doing it anymore, but I've learned a lot from him. It is not an important enough part of my life to keep devoting this much time to, though. Kills a whole day.

Making progress on snatch and C&J, doing a lot of work on back flexibility. Interesting that my back felt better after this than it has in over a week, although it was plenty tired by the time I got home.

AOWN

Minding my own business in the house, distracted by a bit of movement outside and a big surly-looking bear comes out of the flower garden and starts walking along the path and down the steps. I go out and follow, and by now he seems gone, but turn the corner and he is in the garage. He's not liking the attention, so he starts coming back out and I back off a few steps, and he gives me his most surly look, displaying his nice white patch on his chest. Into the house for me, and through the house, stepping over the sleeping dog and out on the deck. By now he has upended the trash can and has a bag of trash to dismantle on the grass. I tell him to go away in a stern tone of voice, not expecting much compliance, but he looks at me, and then skedaddles. So I picked up the trash and closed the garage doors to forestall further predation. The dog was none the wiser.

Two dogless dog walk loops. Too hot to take the dog, but not really all that hot. These were just hard because my left glute is really tied in a knot and very sore. It stiffened up the last day or two in Germany, and is much worse now.
