Orienteering 45:05 [3] 4.61 km (9:46 / km) +81m 8:59 / km

Metroleague - an OK run in nice-ish forest. I am not strong enough to really run through the thicker scrappy stuff and this showed in my time. No major time losses (poor route to 4 after I met someone on the way who thought that way was blocked so went around, a bit of time on 7, then slow through green on 10 and 11). Beautiful day out!

A bit of a hard slog today and quite scrappy with the orienteering too. Paula and I ran together so it was good to chat and nice to have someone pushing me along. Feeling very sore and weary, but that is quite nice for a change.

Surprise Sprint event at Double Bay on a beautiful sunny Saturday. WE had planned on catching the ferry across, but time got the better of us... I probably ran a bit harder than I am ready for but it was good fun and hopefully good for my fitness. Really suffering from about half way and had to have quite a few walking breaks. Very happy with my running this week.

Glad I opted for the "medium" 3.6km course!

PS celebrity spotting... Bob Carr and his wife out walking.

Wow, got to do a moonlight madness! First for a long time, felt surprisingly good running. Hip sore now but no more than expected especially given running that far on hard ground.

Made a few dodgy route choices, but this gave me some bonus distance :)

Run 30:00 [3] 4.75 km (6:19 / km)
shoes: Saucony Guide 6

South side of river Lane Cove NP. Hip icky near the start but felt better after a bit of walking, hopefully just from sitting badly for too long.

Tilbradden-fairy Castle-two Rock- home. Hard on the legs and Eoin got lost coming down too.

Yet another sensational day for Ireland sunshine and warm :) not a drop of water in the bogs though...

Note

It's officially a heat wave in Ireland. The qualifying criteria was tough-5 days above 25 degrees!

Note

I can't help commenting again on Irish weather forecasts: "heading for an oppressive night with temperatures only dropping to the mid-teens". This was after showing one of those yellow warning triangles next to tomorrow's forecast of >27!!!

We are lucky and really enjoying the sunshine!

Orienteering 42:58 [3] 5.01 km (8:35 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

Run through the Curracloe sand dunes, didn't really stop to appreciate Eoin' s mapping, a lot has changed in 25 years- especially the undergrowth. Lots of backtracking out of bramble infested forest, fun all the same and a few nice patches. Relieved there are no snakes in Ireland as it was definitely snake weather and snake country.

Run 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Guide 6

Marlay Park , nice to do something finally. Got lost as per usual... Lovely paths to run on though and got the good bits twice.
Looks like a carbon copy of this run: http://www.attackpoint.org/sessiondata.jsp?session...

Ankle sore after twisting it while carrying Aoife leaving a party last night. We both went down like a sack of potatoes!

Swim 1:00 [3]

It was HOT in Dublin so we went to the "beach". The water was freezing, the locals were amusing.

Walk 1:10:40 [1] 2.81 km (25:09 / km) +123m 20:38 / km

Up 3 rock with Aoife and Eoin. Started from Ticknock and went via the deep, dark wood.

Straight line distance 5.1km. Needless to say I was HOPELESS. The terrain was very tough for me and the map hard to read in places, but I just magnified that with some pretty useless orienteering. Had decided to skip the second last after overshooting and was almost back to the finish when I turned back to get it, not sure why.

Quite cold and wet out there too, on a positive note I did finish before 10pm.

Orienteering 50:27 [3] 4.05 km (12:27 / km) +156m 10:26 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

A bit better today, started well but then lost loads of time wandering off track on a long leg. Took the direct route on the following leg as a result and I did not have the strength or fitness for that so suffered a bit of lack of oxygen to the brain at the end of the leg. After that I was ok - shorter legs and reading the detail - definitely more my thing.

Overall had a great time despite coming last. While I can blame lack of fitness for being slow, I also showed a fair lack of good technique for this stuff... Oh well, I'd better come back soon for some more practice :)

Aoife really enjoyed the experience as well which is quite a turn up!

Quite a bit scrappier today (me and the terrain),still fabulous! Made a few radical route choices again today just to enjoy myself (nothing to lose as I am 2nd last).

Had a panic attack on the way to the start when I noticed my start time printed on the number was about 80 minutes ago... Luckily the number had the wrong times.
