Orienteering 42:33 [3] 5.18 km (8:13 / km) +53m 7:49 / km
shoes: VJ Irock 2

Really poor effort from me and was not able to use my normal first leg focus to get our team a good start :( Not concentrating at all and did not realise until after that I was running the same course as Tracy/Marina et al... I was left for dead half way to the first control as I had read too far ahead and stopped at the ridge half way to the first control thinking I was there already... Slowly started hauling people back after I sorted that out, but over-ran 5. Saved myself without too much time loss. Thought I was a bit wayward after the spectator, but got 7 soft on - lucky! Hit 8 well and 9 not too bad. Here I caught CathyMcC but ignored her and went to 10. Missed that one and then thought "I wonder where Cathy went?" too late... she was gone, but I thought maybe I'd seen her higher so wandered up there - hopeless. Ended up deciding to get 11 and then go back to 10 - probably the best option from where I was! Slog from there to the finish with my tail between my legs. We managed 3rd in the end - well done Silke and Allison!

While I loved the terrain, it would have been good to do the long here instead. For a relay, the physicality meant that people split way too easily. I was really struggling with the ups and downs towards the end and there wasn't a great deal of choice/sense in trying to go around. Hips not good today.

Not the cleanest run ever, but turned out cleaner than many others. I did have a few wayward moments but managed to make the right move to save myself just in time. Managed to push pretty hard and back did not affect me too much. Loved the map and terrain! Want to do more of this!

Back was a bit stiff during this run, as it has been a few times lately. Foggy out today and quite chilly.

Still not feeling good even though it was stunning and warm out. Now back seems annoying so lots of stretching and hip flexor stretches to try and get it right again.

Really struggling to keep up with Nat today despite her supposedly being 15 min more worn out .

A bit of a slog today! Nice to get moving again, calf all good! Met Nat at Bindubi lights and did a short loop across to concrete path and back. Cold afterwards but warm running.

MTB 31:12 [3] 6.91 km (13.3 kph) +179m

Ride home - transport logistics meant I left the bike at work yesterday. Amazingly stunning and warm day, coming home at lunch time, would have appreciated short sleeves by the end of the ride, long were necessary setting out though.

MTB 27:28 [3] 6.83 km (14.9 kph) +110m

To work. Wildlife encounter of the day was dodging kangaroos through Black mountain. They have appeared all of a sudden, must be springtime!

Still a bit skittish on loose rocks and relying on voltaren for shoulder and hip.

MTB 26:26 [3] 6.92 km (15.7 kph) +100m

Ride to work. Beautiful Morning!

Very sore calf so did not run this morning.

Saw a possum getting attached by a magpie in ANU. No sympathy for the possum unfortunately. The magpie was quite ferocious!

MTB 34:47 [3] 7.04 km (12.1 kph) +179m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Home again. Managed to fall (slide) off on some loose rocks. Fortunate to land on hand, hip and ankle so limited skin off, but I am going to have some impressive bruises. Sore now. Made me forget the calf.

Kangaroo paddocks with Nat. Good to get out and moving as was quite sore from yesterday.
Had a viltaren last night as hip very uncomfortable. Ran ok but ran out of steam at the end. Chilly today :(

ACT Long Champs. OK run but. far from perfect. A bit slow to 1, just making sure. Cautious the end of 3 having run past a herd of lost people 200m earlier. Low to 4, Missed 5 by misreading map, would have followed Andy to his control because it was also mine. So annoyed about that I ran to hard to 6 and was way off. Was a bit low on 7 (tired and sick of green stuff). Corrected but a bit slow as control hidden by log. Pretty clean for rest of course and running relatively hard due to Andrew S ahead and then Ben R ran past me. Andrew was particularly annoying me as I saw hime heading into 5 as I was going to 6. He got past me with my dumb mistake there.

Feeling very old having definitely been given an old ladies course today. 2 courses below W40! I below M60.

Most epic control collecting ever. 2nd control was a water drop. I decided to leave the containers and stands on a spur and come back later. Then could not find a control. Approached it 4 times and got to the same spot with no control and no evidence of any visitors. Decided that maybe it was never actually used... Then could not find the next control. Got grumpy so gave up and went to collect abandoned water containers and stands. No problems finding them despite having just dumped them in a random location. Got back to fields and Eoin was driving around looking for me. He volunteered to come and help find the AWOL controls. We got one, but the main culprit was definitely not there - he navigated to same place as me. Maybe I took so long I have a "reputation" with the new club and may be excused from future control collecting ;).

PS forgot to mention I did see 2 wombats out there wandering around with me, so not the worst afternoon ever!

Another new route from AIS. Nat and I went via O’Connor Ridge across to North Lyneham and back. Nice rolling hills and good views.

Ski 4:02:45 [3] 31.88 km (7:37 / km) +3192m 5:04 / km

Some super runs today - being out early on a very quiet morning, we were amongst the first down some slopes. Then later, we waited for Excelerator to open after GS (lingo!) racing and got to enjoy that in almost perfect conditions, as long as we stayed out of the slalom tracks. Left fairly early as high temps were making it all very hard work. Had burning quads a few times on last couple of runs.

Car said 19 degrees driving along Guthega Rd, and 23 near Berridale!

Ski 5:32:56 [3] 49.52 km (6:43 / km) +4784m 4:32 / km

A bit of a strange day. High winds meant that the Freedom chair was shut, so we were restricted to just the one t-bar at Guthega (the other one had been out of service for a while). By about lunch time, the kids had all given up and we had a few uninterrupted runs watching Ts going onto the higher t-bar. Finally the Freedom opened as well so we got a few runs in there. The fog had closed in so we stayed in Guthega. Near the end of the day, I ventured to Blue Cow by myself for coffee, but was so scared trying to find the trail there, decided not to do anymore skiing. Made it back via Pleasant View, orange pole by orange pole. Lost the trail a couple of times but not badly. Please to get down lower and to see again :) Really great skiing conditions with not too many people!

Run 42:42 [3] 7.01 km (6:05 / km) +130m 5:34 / km

Tried a faster/longer run - fire trail only. Enjoyed the change, will look to make a route via O'Connor Ridge as well. 2hr training sessions on Saturdays gives me extra time, especially when Eoin does the market expedition :)

Followed this up with watching netball semi-final. Aoife's team did well, going down 8-10 against a bigger and older team. They fought hard and rose to the occasion. It was slightly strange for Aoife as most of the other team were her classmates :). Then a long drive to the snow for a couple more days of fun.

Not on my game today. Fell hard early (and the ground was hard!) and really lost my head and my nerve after that. Got a bit of impetus when Eoin went past, but had no go.

Run 30:06 [3] 4.41 km (6:50 / km) +111m 6:04 / km

Feeling pretty tired and sore today. Tried cutting the run a bit short taking MTB tracks and cross country but still ended up walking back. Abandoned riding plans for today. Hopefully that speeds up recovery.

Setting out at about 11 with Nat made a nice warm run - cool breeze at the beginning soon forgotten. Super views from various parts of Black Mountain. We got a bit lost and I was disappointed to run up my commuting uphill, but as Nat pointed out - it was far easier on foot than bike!Found a really nice single track after that too so worthwhile :). Need to do more runs through here to know where all the paths go and what joins up with what. Summer project?

Event: ACT MTBO #3

MTBO 15:00 [3] 2.5 km (10.0 kph)

Collecting a few controls. Thanks to Jim and Marina, I only had the nearby ones to get.

The ride finally warmed me up again after spending a few hours in standing in the shade, freezing!

Checking SI units had not been nicked and starting them. We were last to leave last night, but there were 6 cars already out there when we arrived this morning, None interested in joining the fun, and all responsible - i.e. controls safe and sound.
