cycling 30:00 [1]

Some easy time on the trainer watching an episode of "Cops" -- reminds me of my days on the mean streets of Kansas City.

Tuesday Feb 27, 2007 #

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging at Bonner Park.

running 15:00 [4]

Park O' LAM intervals at Bonner Park. I ran 4 legs (each between 3:20 and 5:50) at a race-like effort. Fun. I'd planned to do one more leg, but cut it short.

Just took a quick glance at the very early election returns (local mayoral primary) and....the results are looking good. It is too early to draw any conclusions, but I'm hopeful.

running 35:00 [2]

Easy jog at PNS..contemplating tomorrow's mayoral primary.

Sunday Feb 25, 2007 #

Note

Today's training was inspired by George Walker's efforts on Friday.

3 very short courses at SMP. Lots of fun.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Jogging at SMP, much of it in the forest and much of it reading the map at a relaxed effort. I took a fall in the beginning - sore shoulder and sore wrist to go with my sore back.

On one stretch I ran a few hundred meters on a trail that was ankle deep in water....cold water. Even with neoprene socks my feet got cold.

I spent a bit of time at the end following Mary as she ran the last few legs of her test course. She was moving well.

Note

I forgot to post that I found something unusual in the forest today - a hockey puck.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Legs feel good. Back feels better. Some easy time on the trainer.

Thursday Feb 22, 2007 #

running 55:00 [2]

Easy jogging at PNS. Most of the time I was listening to a "podcast" from baseball musings.

running 10:00 [4]

3 x 3:20-ish Old Man Intervals. Felt ok, but my back is still a bit sore.

Wednesday Feb 21, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Feeling sleepy most of the day. A bit of time on the trainer was enough.

Tuesday Feb 20, 2007 #

running 1:00:00 [2]

A reasonably hilly (but easy) jog at PNS. I planned to do a bit more, but my back was sore. I think the soreness is a result of running into a wire in the forest in Georgia. It isn't anything major, but it feels a bit uncomfortable.

Monday Feb 19, 2007 #

cycling 40:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer. About half of the time I was watching TV and half of the time I was reading notes about performance auditing.

Sunday Feb 18, 2007 #

running 20:00 [2]

Warm up jog. Pretty cold out.

GAOC day 2 m21. Not as good a race as yesterday, but not too terrible. Struggled a little bit with concentration but managed to catch it before it caused too much trouble. Fun orienteering.

Frustrating to get home and check my Omanager team and see how poorly the men ran this weekend.

Saturday Feb 17, 2007 #

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging to the start and jogging to stay warm.

GAOC A meet at...hmmm...I've forgotten the name of the place. Decent race but really worn out by the climb. Fun course. Mats kicked me (and may have kicked everyone else, too). He was 18 minutes ahead of me on a course of a little under 10K. I'm not surprised to be behind Mats, but I'm disappointed to be that far behind.

Note

I went around the sprint fundraiser. My goal was to keep my feet dry (Vlad claimed you'd get your feet wet...and he was right except I went out of my way to keep my feet dry). I jogged maybe 10 minutes and walked the rest...took me 35 minutes to cover a bit over 2K.

Thursday Feb 15, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Plans didn't work out as expected, but I spent a few minutes on the trainer.

Wednesday Feb 14, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

On the trainer...thinking about work for a change. Here are a couple of quotes about an audit that I've worked on:

The Mayor said, "That is not appropriate, that is not fair, and that is not good auditing practice."

The committee's chairman, said the audit used "a subjective methodology that's inappropriate," and ""It seems like we have people in the city who want to drag the city down. It seems like there's a minority shaking the tree. They're running wild with this perception that TIF is a bad thing."

Because the audit isn't yet finished and hasn't been made public, I can't comment on these quotes. I wish I could.

Tuesday Feb 13, 2007 #

running 1:05:00 [2]

Jogged on the snow-covered trails at PNS as it got dark. Really nice conditions.

Monday Feb 12, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

What is the cycling equivalent of shuffling? Whatever it is, that is what I was doing tonight.

Sunday Feb 11, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer - perfect warm up for eating a couple of fish tacos.

running 1:30:00 [3]

HIlly run at Wyandotte. I ran the uphills a bit harder than I normally do, and it felt pretty good. Maybe the fish tacos have some beneficial effect.

Saturday Feb 10, 2007 #

running 40:00 [2]

Jogging on the trails at Rockcrusher. Some of the trails were very icy. Even with spikes the ice was slick.

Ran in my new O' shoes, getting them ready for the spring season.

O' practice at Rockcrusher. I don't run at Rockcrusher very often. But when I do I always enjoy it. The map is showing its age (fieldchecked in 1988, I think).

My orienteering was working well today. I had a few lapses in concentration. I also had some very good orienteering. Fun.

Went to the Free State for lunch with Dad and Pam, then made it home in time to watch KU-Mizzou. Nice game.

Friday Feb 9, 2007 #

cycling 50:00 [1]

On the trainer.

If things work out as planned, I should get in some good O' training and some good eating this weekend.

Thursday Feb 8, 2007 #

running 35:00 [2]

Jogging around a bit. Started before dark, but within about 10 minutes I had to turn on my headlamp.

I ran a night O' course - fun, despite some thick, crappy forest. I felt surprisingly good running and surprisingly sore afterwards.

Wednesday Feb 7, 2007 #

cycling 50:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer. I probably should have started later so I could watch the basketball game.

Tuesday Feb 6, 2007 #

running 1:00:00 [2]

At PNS on the way home from work. Still some ice on the trails, but warm weather (40s at the start). I ran without a headlamp, which was fine until the last 15 minutes. I was too lazy to put the lamp on and instead headed over to the Park U. campus and ran around there.

On the way home my sore knee started feeling a little uncomfortable. Bummer.

Sunday Feb 4, 2007 #

running 30:00 [2]

An easy jog on the trails to warm up.

orienteering race 1:00:00 [4] ***

PTOC 65-minute score O' at SMP.

Lots of fun. Nick did a nice job setting the course. It felt more like control picking than anything (24 controls over an hour). I was happy with how moving through the forest felt. One control was hung in the wrong reentrant. I didn't find it and just went on because I was sure I was in the right spot and didn't feel like wandering around.

running 25:00 [2]

I jogged back out to find the control I couldn't find. This time I attacked from a different way and looked in a different reentrant (not the right one) first...and I found it. It was a reentrant off.

I started feeling tired. I probably should have had some sport drink before I went out, but I started to feel cold and figured I'd better get moving.

Lots of small aches and pains by the time I was done - left knee, left ankle, right foot.

Saturday Feb 3, 2007 #

running 1:15:00 [2]

Mary and I went to Wyandotte where she ran her hilly test course. I shuffled around in the forest and on the trails. It'd be legit to call most of today's run "orienteering" because I was doing lots of map reading - running a couple of rough legs, lots of looking at the map and comparing it to the terrain, lots of estimating distances and contours - but I reserve "orienteering" for running courses.

At the 1 hour mark, I took a strange fall. I was headed toward a cedarcreek-like rib injury when my right shoulder caught a tree, slowing my down. My left knee hit a rock or something, but it won't be much trouble.

Friday Feb 2, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

A few minutes on the trainer.

Thursday Feb 1, 2007 #

running 25:00 [2]

Warming up and back to the car. It was dark by the time I got back to the car. Dark and cold.

running 15:00 [4]
ahr:165

I shuffled around the Bonner Park test loop. There was a bit os snow on the ground. Some places were icy. Some places the snow was crusty. The footing certainly slowed me down. I'm not really sure how much.

Felt decent.
