Note
(rest day)

Despite doing nothing yesterday it's gonna be a long day by the time I get to Perth, so I thought I'd take the sleep in this morning and focus on getting the most out of the weekend.

Wednesday May 30, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 13:00 [3] 6.0 km (2:10 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride to school. Punctured turning on to Place road.

run 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)

Late for x country practice - pushing bike rest of way to school

Tuesday May 29, 2007 #

paddle 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: spirit plastic CTR

Morning paddle. Just the usual loop. Felt really slow today, didn't get into a good rhythm at all. Boat is slowly filling with water and I'm too slack to drain it. Found a little hole around the water line though, so I could probably fix the problem...

Dunno how long I was really out there for.

cycle (commute) 17:30 [3] 8.0 km (2:11 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Didn't have bike computer on. Time is a guess. So short it is irrelevant anyway. Hip flexor a bit sore from yesterday, but as said before, annoying, but doesn't really affect cycling much and don't feel it at all on the paddle.

Monday May 28, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 16:50 [3] 8.0 km (2:06 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Wet this am. Very grumpy with car driver who nearly killed me at roundabout by turning left from next to me when I was going straight. Front wheel touched corner of car. Stayed up fortunately. Stupid commodore drivers

cycle tempo 1:32:30 [4] 43.23 km (2:08 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

The speed looks pretty slow, but this was a hard session... so either I'm not functioning very wel at the moment, or the headwind I was pushing into for a solid 20km was pretty strong. It certainly felt like the latter (starting at school and finishing at home means ther was considerbly more haedwind than tail...)

Sunday May 27, 2007 #

MTB (mixed) 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

About 50:50 road:trails by distance. Glad it rained yesterday. Made some of the trails harder as they were muddy, but firmed up the soft sand towards the end of the loop, which I would otherwise have struggled to ride. Went pretty hard, but felt quite flat. Realy died going flat out on the hills. Definitely not 100% but I don't know why...

Saturday May 26, 2007 #

Note

Felt totally crap today. No energy, slept in, nose not runny, but sinuses were shocking...

Played lantern stalk on camp with kiddies. Ended up spinting up sand dunes. Not surprisingly I've totally stufed my hip flexor again... probably won't try running at all until Dryandra weekend. Maybe just a short, easy session at school Wednesday morning to shake out the cobwebs so I don't get too sore on the weekend.

Thursday May 24, 2007 #

Note

Year 9 OE camp today and tomorrow. Doubt I'll get much sleep and wouldn't be surprised to end up sick given how tired I've been feeling for the last couple of weeks.

Wednesday May 23, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 18:45 [3] 8.0 km (2:21 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

COLD! Ride into x country training. Wished I could have joined in the session, especially after seeing the pissweak effort most students put in...

Tuesday May 22, 2007 #

paddle long 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: spirit plastic CTR

Pretty chilly this am. Stayed at home and had brekkie first coz I couldn't face too long in the dark. Paddled Greenough River until it got too shallow to keep going properly and return. Took a while to find a rhythm. Last 30 min felt good. Hands were really sore for first half hour (cold). Glad I had the wetsuit booties.

cycle (commute) 15:50 [4] 8.0 km (1:59 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Bolted to school coz I was running late.

cycle (commute) 19:00 [3] 8.1 km (2:21 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride home.. nothing special

Monday May 21, 2007 #

cycle (commute +) 40:00 [3] 17.0 km (2:21 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Meant to be a ride down to Greenough river trail and around, but front light went flat early on the way there, so looped around and back to school. Still too dark to ride the Chapman eiver loop, so decided to get some work done (or sit on a computer and type this guff) and go after school

cycle (commute) 18:30 [3] 7.6 km (2:26 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

MTB 40:00 [3]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Loop of Chapman River trail. Seat too low this time. Lacked any sort of power on the flats. Felt like a gumby again, bu not as bad as the first time. No major stacks this time :)

Sunday May 20, 2007 #

Note

Had a slack day today. Had a sleep in, followed by church, lunch and a 2 hour nanna nap in the arvo. Was gonna paddle after lunch, but could barely keep my eyes open. Probably best to skip it...

Saturday May 19, 2007 #

cycle long 2:33:06 [3] 75.69 km (2:01 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Long ride out past the spy base. Had been hoping to hold 30km/h, but when I was sitting on 30.0 at the turnaround and heading back essentially into a headwind I knew it was't going to happen. Hip flexor annoying in the second half, but better than running. Worked harder than I usually do riding, but still feel the legs are the limiting factor.

Friday May 18, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 16:30 [3] 8.0 km (2:04 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Have been tired all week, plus pulled up pretty sore from yesterday (hip flexor) so had asleep in, then bolted to school for 8am start.
Have to have alonger paddle on the weekend...

cycle (commute) 22:00 [3] 9.0 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride home via Grammar school to drop off a test.

Thursday May 17, 2007 #

run long 1:43:26 [3] 20.8 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: adistar control

Dunno if it's how i'm feeling or if my shoes need replacing, but not much spring in the step today. Started off at a slow shuffle, loosened up, really struggled from 30-50 min then had a good patch. Hip flexor good to 75 minutes, then getting sorer thru to end, but I still had to get to school, so I couldn't stop

Wednesday May 16, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 17:00 [2] 7.6 km (2:14 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Rode the MTB into school so I can return it to the shop today. Really cold. Regretted leaving my full gloves at school from yesterday. Fingerws pretty sore when I arrived for x country squad at 6:30.

Note

Got new crank put on bike. Hopefully this one will stay on.

Ran beep test twice with classes today, but they were all so poor that it doesn't really cut it as training

Tuesday May 15, 2007 #

run 46:05 [2] 9.0 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: adistar control

Ran into school then was planning on another half and hour, but 5 minutes past school the hip flexor suddenly got a bit sore after being perfect at the start, so I decided to be sensible, rather than continue just because I could. Calf slightly sore at start, fine once warm, could feel it afterwards. Hopefully will all pull up ok and may go for a short ride this arvo. Hip a bit sore from fall yesterday, but not enough to stop anything

Note

Geraldton, Australia
Clear
8°C (feels like 6C)
high: 22, low: 11

No wonder it took a while to warm up this morning. Glad I wasn't on the bike. My face almost fell off running. (and this after it was over 30 on x country day last week...)

MTB 45:00 [3]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Actually did some marking in my DOTT instead of wasting it, so headed out round the Chapman River loop after school. Having some trouble getting my feet out quickly, so rode a fair bit with one clipped in and one out, but felt much more confident, came to a dead stop / put my feet down much less and felt much faster. Having the seat much lower helped considerably.

Not to put the seat back up and get home...

cycle (commute) 20:00 [2] 8.0 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Started quite hard and feeling good, but half way home the crank came loose again and was threatening to fall off. Gonna take it back to the shop and have a whinge tomorrow

Monday May 14, 2007 #

MTB (mixed) 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Was out for a fair bit longer than the recorded time. Started in the dark and spent ages fiddling with my headlamp, trying to get it to fit over / under my helmet. Finally found a way that wasn't too uncomfortable.

Tried to ride a sand firebreak. Very unsuccessfully. Couldn't get moving at all, so bailed out to road, rode down to Greenough walk trail and went round that for a bit. Decided to stop riding like a wimp and try to attack the corners a bit more and promptly stacked it, landed on my hip and elbow and took off a fair bit of skin. Felt like a real dickhead and reverted to riding like the talentless gumby that I am. Back on the road all the way to school.

Note

Any suggestions for tire pressures to try to ride on sand??

Sunday May 13, 2007 #

Note

To finish off an awesome weekend of training, decided tp sleep in, then instead of actually doing anything in the afternoon decided to try to change over pedals and get my MTB set up the way I want it. After ages of frustration, I finally succumbed to logic and went and bought the right sized spanner from Bunnings. Job done in about 20 seconds...

Saturday May 12, 2007 #

Note

Went out for a MTB ride this am (5:30). Lasted 10 minutes, then crank and pedal fell off. Walked home and went back to bed. Very grumpy. Didn't do anything else all day

MTB 10:00 [2]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

See note

Friday May 11, 2007 #

paddle 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: spirit plastic CTR

Same as normal, but starting in the dark. River was really glassy. Did a few surges on the way back, mainly coz I didn't want to be late for outdoor ed and wasn't going to skip breakfast.

No swell at beach for OE. Should have paddled on the ocean...

Thursday May 10, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 22:00 [3] 8.0 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Hard work today. Strong northeasterly.

Leg has recovered welll from yesterday. Interestingly, the top of my calf (which I had though was sore from walking) actually got quite sore running and is worse than the hip flexor today, so I guess walking had nothing to do with it... maybe I should go and see a physio

Wednesday May 9, 2007 #

run 35:30 [1] 7.0 km (5:04 / km)
shoes: adistar control

Slow jog into school to test the leg. Started as a shuffle, strode out a bit more in the middle. Could feel the hip flexor a bit but ok to about 5km, then started to get worse. Sore after I stopped, and really sore after I took the cross country kids through some running drills (high knees etc). Might need a few more days off running. Day off tomorrow (Penny's birthday, paddle on Friday, then see how things feel...

cycle (commute) 15:50 [4] 8.05 km (1:58 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Nicer wind than normal. Felt easy at the start so I belted it home as quick

Tuesday May 8, 2007 #

cycle 2:14:09 [3] 66.06 km (2:02 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Was hoping for a run this am, but in hindsight, my ITB was getting quite sore after an hour on the bike, so maybe it was better this way... Dunno how people ride so fast in the Busso half ironman - holidng anything over a 30km average would be the death of me i reckon. Could just be that the legs aren't up to it yet - the lungs never seem to work too hard on the bike...

Note
(injured)

Just tried to take a year 8 class through a warm-up for cross country. Really overdid it a bit on the bike this morning. Hip flexor is stuffed again. I could handle a slow jog, but nothing faster and I suspect the slow jog may get more painful after 5-10 minutes... Will still have to try jogging straight into school tomorrow to find out...

cycle (commute) 23:30 [1] 7.4 km (3:11 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Slow ride home with a sore leg... Need to adjust gears. Skipping around a lot between gears in all the middle ones. Very annoying. Ended up in a really high gear so it wouldn't jump out pedalling really slow into the wind.

Monday May 7, 2007 #

MTB (mixed) 1:40:00 [2]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Ride to school, dumped bag then rode around river trail for a while. Felt good on new bike on the smoother stuff, but still a gumby when it gets even slightly technical. No good at dealing with logs, rocks and big bumps in the track... tend to hit them, run out of gas and tip off sidewards...

Note

Was meant to have a gentle jog home to see if I'd be right to run in tomorrow, but the girls are sick and Penny came and got me (then went out for the vening, so I couldn't get out and test the leg. Guess I'll be riding again tomorrow

Sunday May 6, 2007 #

paddle 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: spirit plastic CTR

Tried to focus on using body rather than just arms and pulling through the water a bit harder. Was quicker for loop, so must have done something right. Not surprisingly, arms more tired than usual afterwards.

Friday May 4, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 39:00 [2] 17.0 km (2:18 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride to school and home via bike shop to buy MTB

Thursday May 3, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 17:15 [2] 8.0 km (2:09 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Hip flexor still slowly improving. Pain behind knee more localised to outside. So getting there. Might be able to go for a decent ride by the weekend. Running still seems a fair way off...

cycle (commute) 20:00 [1] 8.15 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Wednesday May 2, 2007 #

cycle 19:00 [2] 8.0 km (2:23 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Leg is slowly improving. Better cycling than walking or running. Made it to school ok. Walking the cross country course with year 8's was painful. Dance with year 10's surprisingly not so bad.

cycle (commute) 18:30 [2] 7.8 km (2:22 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Tuesday May 1, 2007 #

Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Dunno what to call today, so I ticked all the boxes. I've got a cold, I'm tired and need a rest after the rogaine, and I'm so sore behind my knee and in my hip flexor that I couldn't do anything even if I felt good otherwise

Note

Felt like wasting some time, so I've done an approximate map of the controls we went to on the rogaine on google maps. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=911212 Not real accurate. Pretty cloudy map in parts and I really should have been working. Makes straight line out to be about 58, not 61km, but pretty irrelevant really.
