Hiking 39:50 [3] 4.4 km (9:03 / km)

8 Rts of driveway. After first RT, tried jogging on toes (balls of feet) for the first 100m over to Katcha's house, relatively level. Did not seem to bother the hip. Also seems to have significantly upped the pace. If I can strengthen the feet/ankles and get used to that style of jogging, I may get back into some level of competition by the fall. Encouraging but I've got to be gradual.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [3] 3.5 km (51:26 / km)

In Stratton Brook SP with friend Bob Weisel to streamer my control points. Still a few to go. Need to true-up the course map in a few instances.

Visited grandson's elementary school to see his science project. A lot of noise and energy in that gym with all the kids and parents and displays. Riley and his partner did a swell job of illustrating their attempts to build structures with marshmallows and raw spaghetti strands, showing that pasta works best for compression structures, not tension. Hope he keeps up his interest in science and engineering. His dad was there, and to my great relief Dave is going to be available the weekend of the Stratton Brook event to help me out.

Swimming 50:00 [3] 1.1 mi (45:28 / mi)

2000 yards at Westminister.

Got a good suggestion from Walk for relocating one of the controls in my Stratton Brook plan. Went up to the park to check out the area again. Walk made all the changes to the map I suggested and has pointed me to the meet software so I can get up to speed with it. Between Charlie and Walk, I am getting great support in learning how to set courses and administer a meet.

Hiking 45:07 [3] 4.4 km (10:15 / km)

Walked the road loop at Sessions Woods. Noticed the newly clear cut swatch through the southern part of the northern half (north of the east-west road going out to the pond, extending northward half way up the big hill). That eliminates a big area where we liked to place controls. Otherwise, the woods looked a lot more open than last November and December, but I don't think due to staff work except along the road. Could see a heck of lot more of the topography than when leaves are out.

Hiking 35:33 [3] 3.2 km (11:07 / km)

Walked 6 RTs of driveway. No problem with aerobics. Right hip getting more flexible but still have to short step on the uphill.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 2.0 km (45:00 / km)

Walked around Stratton Brook with Charlie to evaluate control site candidates. Charlie is giving me great guidance in preparing to host the May event there.

Orienteering race 1:22:22 [2] *** 5.1 km (16:09 / km)
ahr:114 max:135 spiked:9/12c rhr:65

First course since developed hip problem a few months ago. Recent Rx has eliminated the referred pain and made walking tolerable. Determined today to stay with the map and not to run. Nailed most of the bags. On three of them was a bit confused in areas where the ridges/knolls were abundant and closely packed (1, 8 and 9) but had confidence I was in the right area. On 9 I resolved to head East and use the marsh to get bearings - ran right into the bag on my way. Great day in the woods and pleased with how I did. Had to rein myself in a couple of times when I wanted to hustle faster to an espied bag.
