Hotel Nouvel to Park Güell
12:16 AM; Barcelona, Spain

20.1 °C; Clear
Park Güell was on my bucket list for Barcelona and since we did not have enough time, I made this today's running destination. I thought that today's run would be relatively easy compared to yesterday's climb up to the top of Montjuic. Not so, as I approached my destination, I was confronted by an interminable looking stairway. It did have a working escalator going up along the stairs but I'm too proud to use mechanical means. As I huffed and puffed up the stairs, interrupted by a short section of a steep road, I had the opportunity to contemplate that running up stairs is easier then running up a step-less incline of similar steepness. One I stepped off the last stair thread, I was confronted by a signe that pointed down hill to another entrance, because the one where I arrived was closed due to construction. Oh well, more training effect. The reward was being able to run through Gaudi's beautifully quirky structures and up yet more stairs to reach the very pinnacle of the park. Awesome, albeit somewhat exhausting way to start the day.

Walking Around La Pedrera
2:46 AM; Barcelona, Spain

26.6 °C; Clear
Went to visit Casa Mila aka La Pedrera. I pushed for an early slot but even at 10 AM, the place was full. At least, there were no lines. Very impressive structure, like everything by Gaudi I have seen thus far. Hard to take pictures though, people in the way everywhere. After we were done with our visit, we headed north, to Eglisia Sant Joan, stopping on the way back on Placa del La Vila de Gracia, where we stumbled into a Catalan happening involving Castell, or human pyramid building. We arrived as one was just at its apex, and then two more being built in succession. Ont eh way back, we ate lunch and looked at several other local Art Nouveau houses.

Hotel Nouvel to Playa Barceloneta
11:21 PM; Barcelona, Spain

15.8 °C; Cloudy
Needed an easy day after having two hard hill segments during the previous days. Ran to the beach and waded for about 500 m in the knee to hip-deep water, which felt good and provided a little relief to my sore quads. Returned via La Rambla, which is nice and quiet this early in the day. Will be another travel day, heading for Belgium, to see relatives before returning to the Barcelona area.
