Running race 17:32 [5] 5.0 km (3:30 / km)

DC edition of Race for the Cure - pretty warm despite the early start, standard issue DC summer humidity and a course with very little shade. Maybe not much faster than this was possible despite the very flat course, beyond the amount that not starting far enough behind the line that my chip time was 22 seconds less than my gun time would entitle me to subtract from this result to allow for being obstructed by slow runners for the first couple hundred meters. Looking at last years results with only one result among the top ten men showing more than a second or two's difference between chip and gun times, I had assumed there was either a formal or informal system to ensure the front of the pack was reserved for the fleet at the start line but such didn't seem to be the case, though most of my competitors apparently managed to be pushy enough to get up there. This resulted in my being officially fourth overall, first male 30 or older despite crossing the finish line as the seventh male. Slightly unfair, I suppose, but it didn't affect any category or overall placings since all the runners involved were in their 20s so I won't feel too guilty.
