hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa!
april fool arrived early in the form of a mountain covered in mist and 200+ runners with little local knowledge and 50 odd who should just have known better but fortunately at least two with their heads relatively well focused on the task.
all was reasonably fine up to Millstone, the trails were congested and i should've been further up the field as i was maintaining a reasonable pace and a cool head despite encountering (several times) the questionable tactic of a runner overtaking at pace, then literally stopping dead in front of you trying to disrupt your rhythm.
the chaos that then developed after the checkpoint at Millstone was ridiculous. i should've kept my line and bearing but everyone was bombing off to the south DOWN the hill!! ...and, of course at this point i followed!
the pack mentality takes over, even from common sense! it took a while to find my own common sense but eventually i was back on track, and on my own and importantly happy and confident in what i was doing. and up to donard without any fuss.
Coming off the summit i soon realised that i was again on my own, on a good track coming down so i had my suspicions that this was taking me to the Blackstairs. My suspicions were confimed soon enough but i just kept it simple and on tracks, crossing the Glen then running the trail back up to the quarry to get the checkpoint before following the tape home to finish in 177th! with plenty left in the tank
