Orienteering race (NGOC League) 1:00:17 [3] 7.15 km (8:26 / km) +250m 7:11 / km
slept:4.5 weight:70kg shoes: VJ Integrator High (1)

NGOC League at Bixslade. 6.3km blue.

Not bad course but really lacking any pace on the hills and being overly cautious in brashings and steep descents.

Big mess of 7 as didn't realise until too late that some of the white I was seeing was rough open/scattered trees so was too low. Careful on 8 and worked on main track below to go past the unmapped paths.

Walked all of 11-12, taking path would have been better than going along stream at start.

Last few controls a bit bingo-y (particularly 15 and 16) so there was a very large group for the last few.

Pushing hard but not breaking away from anybody so surprised to have finished so high up the results. Still pretty bad to be 10 mins down though.

12 voided - I don't think the control was quite right, but the correct feature was only about 15m away from the control. The tag, however, was on an entirely different platform - one of the two NE of the circle - it was almost due west of the south fence of the mine - maybe 50-100m from the mapped position.

Collecting controls from the main slope. Ran down to control 67 then walked back, some stopping to look for controls/tags.

Running race (Bridge Inn) 20:26 [5] 5.05 km (4:03 / km) +30m 3:56 / km
slept:4.0 weight:69.9kg shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 r

Wasn't going down to Rowberrow and found out at lunch time the Bridge Inn was tonight. Planned on running flat out to try for a 5k pb anyway so was convenient.

Started near the back as expected everyone to be good. Took 5s+ to get moving and across the start line. Boxed in early on but was running on 100% for the last 4.9k or so.

Found it very tough pushing so hard for so long, but little wind today and worth it to knock a minute off my pb.

Nice to have some confirmation that I am still improving after all. Not that my training has been up to much so far this year. Should do more, and try and get injured less.

Seems my healthy eating fad (well, eating less cakes/chocolates/sweets) has worked well too as weight seems to be stable at about 70kg now when it was sitting on 72 at the start of the month. Hopefully more speed for less effort!

Note

Google seems to have updated its aerial photos of Gloucestershire today (in places to very high quality). Looks like I've been saved from having to properly survey the whole of the new housing estate! Just the lake and school to go...
