Skate skiing 40:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (25:00 @3) 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Turkey River trails, 42F before 10am. Conditions were very good but should have been there 45' or so earlier. A good # of skiers enjoying a very fine day. DST tomorrow, leap into spring.

Biking 7:29 [2] 0.86 mi (8:42 / mi)

Bike house to car.
4 PM

Classic skiing 24:31 [2] 1.36 mi (18:00 / mi) +38m 16:34 / mi

End of day get out waxless ski from end of Parsons. Followed SM trail (some good, also slushy & just plain dirt to avoid) over to BBR & made way home thru woods bouncing off Stoneybrook, familiar houses etc - came out by Corey's. Interesting between S'brook & BBR. Rode back on bike to car. Very mellow cloudless day - a lot of it spent inside on drywall project so getting out was the antidote.

Note

Looked out the window first thing this am to be greeted by this red marvel in a drab white, gray and green world. Thru the glass, the camera didn't quite focus. Still, a bright beginning to the day. (Beth says: "Will I be the chosen Pope?").

Classic skiing 1:11:22 [2] 2.34 mi (30:30 / mi) +51m 28:34 / mi

Classic waxless from BBR end of WHR. Snowed about 6" last night which had settled considerably in 40F March wx. First bit was SM packed but then untracked, being Friday, not weekend. WH road wasn't great but got to main intersection-turn around point & decided to make a loop of it, thru woods & back along side of Bog Meadow. Gun shy on ice - stayed close to shore. Some morons shooting guns across the meadow, too. Went down to the SM bridge to get across the stream which was too wide to get across for most part. Dogs did fine - in woods, it was either not too deep or somewhat packed with settled new on top.

Walking 19:00 [1] 0.4 mi (47:29 / mi)

Am DP on old SS tracks - a bridge of hard across post hole snow. Saw what appeared to be a large food cache spread on the snow, digging for stores I'd guess. More snow for today.

Weightexercise workout 30:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (10:00 @2)

Y but not much umph - yawned my way thru the first half. In the process of forgetting Sunday's 'injury' episode.

Weightexercise workout 49:00 intensity: (25:00 @1) + (16:00 @2) + (8:00 @3)

Y weights & elliptical. Calf is better today but lying in wait perhaps.

Note

No matter. Have patience:-).

Road running 41:51 intensity: (5:37 @1) + (24:19 @2) + (11:55 @3) 4.08 mi (10:15 / mi) +41m 9:57 / mi
ahr:122 max:136 shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Drive to Needham & instead of going to Cambridge after, stopped in old friend Newton in interest of time. Parked near NWH & ran a loop of Beacon, Chestnut, Comm Ave & Rte 16. Left calf started hurting at 24' - knew I'd strained it Sunday in the skiing & then when I bent over the passenger door of the car, reaching/bending as far as I could to reach something, felt a pull. Walked/jogged back - going to log as injury to keep track of time/course. Now cannot stand on my toes.

Lunch in Newton Centre, stopped by 120 Pleasant & park across street. Newton...such compressed living, so many nice homes, so much traffic on Comm Ave & 16. And spring it was there - so little snow, saw some daffodils peeking thru & pachysandra that looked lifelike plus some XC kids on Comm Ave in light running stuff (45F).

Weightexercise workout 38:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (8:00 @3) 1.0 km (38:00 / km)

Y weights & cardio.

Saw Gary Richardson, new/familiar face there.
10 AM

Classic skiing 34:54 intensity: (28:00 @2) + (6:54 @3) 2.49 mi (14:00 / mi) +74m 12:49 / mi

Bower Loop DP. Waited til 10am for crust to soften but still crusty - (c)rude 'death crust' on the few downhills: SM track making snow plow iffy to impossible, dragged poles on the biggest. Fell once anyway. Sore rt first MTP as usual but worse after yesterday. Wore HRM! Need to get in habit - find it (done), get used to its 'constriction' and learn something from it despite my believing I can do without.

Word has it that Steven Covey was consulting Barb regularly when he was writing his book. I caught her lying donw on the job only once: Seeds of exhaustion!

Skate skiing race 1:00:03 [3] 6.74 km (8:54 / km) +139m 8:04 / km

Ski O at Gunstock thanks to Jim Arsenault. Warm wx & nicely groomed trails. For ambiance, lots of kids from a paintball biathalon competition - many young skaters with the usual boundless energy (& exquisite technique), a few in t-shirts.

Got them all w/o problem, just lack of technique. Sara Mae & Larry Berman, Ken Walker & Ed Despard made up the rest of the crew. Sara offered me a cup of tea from her 57 y/o wedding thermos. She & Larry were then off to Goffstown to see her 101 year old mother! Nice way to spend an afternoon in agreeable weather and company.

Note

Tony Mangan finished NZ a few days ago, arriving in Bluff. Tried to get an AP logger living in Christchurch to take note but got no response. Thought it was pretty amazing to ponder running from Newfoundland to Patagonia & now being at the tip of the SI of NZ with the Australian continent ahead.
