Trail/woods running 1:01:00 intensity: (11:00 @1) + (40:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) 3.54 mi (17:14 / mi) +228m 14:22 / mi

Back to Marjorie Swope after NHH, wanted some more of the hardwood env't. Mild again. Went behind the lake, path ended: 2 on map was at a wall end, three trail jct & also wall end, 4 hit path again, 5 cross stream, 6 leave path going too much south, go east, 7 hit yesterday's path. Used the 'sun compass' in a few places, mostly going east in returning to the car park & came upon the trail I'd already used. Had 60' in mind - time passes easily with a game to play.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

Frosty DP, cold in shade, entirely different 50m north in sun (N&S hemispheres in a nutshell). Was able to walk a little on smooth black ice near shore but falling was quite real & not cool with camera in hand and hip or wrist at risk as well. Not yet psyched for 'ice negotiating' but maybe Mocha's considering.

Trail/woods running 28:12 [2] 1.87 mi (15:05 / mi) +116m 12:39 / mi

Ended up at Marjory Swope Park on Jerry Hill off Long Pond after errands. Nice trail system, almost entirely hardwood, fabulous view of Penacook Lake. Met the same woman a second time when I returned from a detour. We chatted for some 15' at the lookout. She is the trail steward for that particular trail. Used to live in Bow, run in the town forest, now hiking with twin hiking sticks, had a half marathon wool cap on but didn't get to ask about it - we both had to scoot along.

shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Hopkinton Patch-Rollins circuit, mild, around 3pm. OK once I woke up.
Hopkinton has much rural attractiveness. Did think how I miss high noon runs at work.

The Stink bug

The fact that it winters in my house has all to do with it... why I might have a small attachment (similar to the resident lady bugs of other years) to a prehistoric-looking insect. But not to get microscopic, that could be unsettling. Harmless, bumbling (almost unable to right when on back), a ‘stink’ I’ve not experienced...an insect that can amuse & is not minded.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

PM DP, mellow yellow around 3p. Dogs regained an interest in mobility.
They were stuck to the floor from time we returned to this morning. A time of year when accountability to training is not so much.

Walking 3:09:00 [1] 3.0 mi (1:03:00 / mi) +159m 54:06 / mi

Partial Nottingcook boundary walk with Ken: dry, became nice. Wasn't looking forward to seeing logging: D&D as in death & destruction. That's a problem with mapping private property...a lovely wood of old pine and rhodendron reduced to stumps. At one point, I could look up a few contours to see the boulder &RS that were the first brown point on day 1 at the '07 A meet - the boulder that I did find on the night O run a few weeks ago when landsmarks were at best confused due to logging. The RS was there, small & worn but present amongst the stumps. Walked the Panhandle to the Hooksett border which was fun as it was entirely new. Noted property AS owns adjacent to Merrill Crossing - need to get in touch. Came up to south end of Hornbeim swamp where Beth & I & dogs spent some time last summer. Passed by more beer cans & shot gun casings in exiting. Sigh, tears everywhere: "Cry for my beloved ...fellow man":).

More war zone

Route, 'forest-type' map
started 305 late

On O map
interesting seeing where forest boundaries actually are - never paid attention - 'woods was free'...

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

DP, drippy, dreary day. Appears that hunting has all but ended for the year, how nice and no encounters - just being confronted with occasional sloppy disposal of offal. Dogs detected something, even got frantic in 'chase' but I was clueless as to what it was.

Was able to note where flag 31 was from PG 305 track - did not look that far S.
