running 21:00 [3]

Jog in Liverpool. Windy. Apparently other people's flights were being delayed or worse, lucky me.

Staggered around near Lausanne. Not in the best of shape.

Note

felt a bit of a twinge from the calf cycling in... not as confident as I was...

Note

Would anyone perchance have a JK accomm/transport spot open?

bike 1:35 [2]

Similar route but a bit further than Friday, rode down to La Plaine. Lots of spinach and vineyards and ponies and goats and sheep and some things which looked like the ponies and the sheep had gotten together over a bottle of wine and...

I can see why a mountain bike might make more sense in some situations. First gear isn't particularly generous. I did get into top gear too, and going fast I still was pedalling pretty slowly. Maybe I just need to get fitter and stronger. And spend more than 130 euros on shoes and shoe clips and maybe pedals.

seem not to have re-broken myself

bike 1:11 [2] 22.43 km (3 / km) +194m 3 / km

Out on my new old bike, Specialized Epic. Seems pretty nice, just the right-hand gear changer doesn't always want to work...

Hit the absolute apex of my mathematical career today. Amongst the audience, professors, a Faddeev, a Fields medallist, in a packed seminar room; speaking, another Fm. One question from the speaker. I answer, correctly. Oh the glory!

The masterful talk went from quantum mechanics to braid theory via quantum field theory, von Neumann algebras, sub-factors, conformal field theory, Block spin renormalisation and more. Whatever that means. The question, somewhere in the middle: what is $4\cos^2(\pi/3)$?

Note

Went for a stroll from Grütschalp to Winteregg, had lunch in the sun, then went inside and did some maths and hung out with the German telemark team, including 1st and 2nd in the men's race. Then train to Mürren, walked to Gimmelbopwald, cable car back down to the bus back to Lauterbrunnen (first time here in twenty years).

This place is stunning. I wish I could run.

Note

Ugh, yesterday the pain and discomfort was essentially gone. Considered going for a light jog, but decided to try some heel drops instead. <10 of those, but it was enough for the calf to complain. Pain is up at the top of it, inside side. Nothing too bad, but I guess it needs another week of rest. Maybe I can cycle.

The irritation going up the hamstring (inflammation, presumably) is gone, at least. Combination of rest, ice and diclofenac did the trick, presumably.

Note

Ooh, I might be getting involved with sCOOL!

Friday Mar 6, 2015 #

Note

Or perhaps it is hamstring tendonitis. Whatever it is, it isn't pleasant.

Thursday Mar 5, 2015 #

Note

Calf persisting in its banjaxed state.

Spellcheck proposes Janjaweed (not the same thing as ganja/weed) for banjaxed.

Sometimes a rich person does pay tax - http://www.letemps.ch/Page/Uuid/ffe69d06-c17d-11e4...

Muscle behind knee, top of calf, is totally acting up. It heals tight so I can hardly walk until it gets ripped again. hohum.
