Orienteering 43:00 [3] 5.3 km (8:07 / km)
shoes: x-Talon 212

Checking out Braes for Boxing Day DNC. Going to be lovely :-)
6 PM

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

To start and back

Orienteering race 1:10:00 [3] 7.5 km (9:20 / km) +150m 8:29 / km
shoes: Arctic Talon

Oh dear! Least said better! Missed just about every one and then could not relocate at all at 7. Eventually had to go to the fence beyond 8, some 400m from the control to figure out where I was!
The problem tonight wasn't that I couldn't see the map (new lenses are much better), but I was struggling to interpret the shapes from the contours, especially using the magnifier which is confusing my scale intuition and obscuring the bigger picture. I would see nice shapes on the ground but was having real difficulty teasing them out from the map. Night map-reading technique still needing some serious tweaking. Still 10 weeks to BNC, which is hopefully time enough to work it out!
Note total time was 80', but spent at least 10' standing scratching my head!

Running warm up/down 23:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Speedcross 4

To bottom of hill and back down from Meikle Tap

Running hills 30:00 [5] 3.7 km (8:06 / km) +250m 6:04 / km

10x2'+1' up Meikle Tap on the big track. Felt v tired at the start and wasn't sure it was going to work, but was actually ok once I got into it. Pleased to get it done.
Even more exciting - I have almost figured out how to use my watch in interval mode :-)

Running 1:21:00 [3] 7.3 km (11:06 / km) +640m 7:43 / km

Monday Morven. Late afternoon steady up and easy down the same way, taking care not to slip. Thin cover of snow and some atmospheric views to Lochnagar and Mount Keen. Nice.

Stretching 10:00 [1]
