Bit of an easy and stop-start session checking emergency car parking options for next weekend, met Brian by chance at the end and so got a bit of navigation/terrain in as well to check taping at a couple of sites.

Drowning in orienteering tasks so changed plans to a weekend at home. Weather too nice not to get out though so headed from home up the start of the hill and across to the bottom of the vehicle track.......

Intervals intervals 40:00 [4] 6.47 km (6:11 / km) +380m 4:47 / km
max:154 shoes: 2010 Inov8 Roclite

....where I had quite a tough session planned, 20 times 60sec hard with 60 sec jog recovery, plan was for the first ones to be steeply ascending on the track, the next ones to be fairly level but slightly ascending on the grassy track up to the summit trig, and the final ones to be leg speed ones in terrain to get me part way down the descent.

And I had failed to factor in that it was also into the wind, mainly straight into the sun so I was in danger of falling over the whole time on the rough stuff, that the grassy track has much more climb than anticipated, and that it is more a marsh than a track at present. Not to mention that the jog in between was of course also uphill so that from outset my pulse was only coming down about 10bpm during the recovery jogs.

So lucky I was looking for a tough session as I got one! Made it to the trig point with two reps to spare, so did at least get a couple of downhill reps in through the tussocks at the end.

Running 24:26 [2] 3.64 km (6:43 / km)

And back home nice and easy through the terrain and down the track from the quarry.

Turbo Trainer 30:15 [3]

Pretty frustrating day in just about every way possible, glad to just about find time for some exercise to de-stress a bit!

Note
(rest day)

Couldn't run before work, couldn't run at lunch as leaving early for BOF/squad stuff in Edinburgh, couldn't run in evening as not home until late. Another pesky unplanned rest day! Maybe not such a bad thing though as chronically short of sleep this week.

Round the loch and drills

Intervals intervals 25:00 [5] 5.08 km (4:55 / km)
max:161 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Aug 2009

Good group today with Tom, Rosco and JT setting a consistent pace out front and me trying to hold off Gary a distance further back.

12 times 90secs with 60secs recovery. Pretty consistent with the first 9 all 430-440m and then 20m further on the final one.

After a few days running without my orthotics I really noticed them today in terms of footstrike position, would have been more on forefoot/midfoot otherwise. Clinging to that as the reason why I wasn't getting as far as when I ran this session in my racing shoes on this day one year ago!

Running warm up/down 31:46 [1] 4.31 km (7:22 / km)
ahr:112 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Aug 2009

Gentle jog round the track and campus.
