running 55:00 [2]

Jogging before and after an O' session at Weston Bend. I stuck to the trails and did a bit of low-key map reading. 35 was before the O' training and 20 was after.

A short control picking course (22:31) at Weston Bend. I worked pretty hard and most of the navigation went quite well. I was a bit rough in the beginning, though. I think the problem was that when I warmed up I carried a map and looked at the terrain then glanced at the map to see how things were mapped (passive map reading, I guess). When I started the technique session I was still doing that. After a couple of controls I got my act together and read the map a bit more actively. It went well from then on. It was a lot of fun.

Enough time on the trainer to break a good sweat.

running 55:00 [2]

Jogged around a bit. I saw a total of 3 unleased square-headed dogs. That's not good.

Gene and I did some low intensity night O' training at SMP. We took turns leading to controls from the permanent course. Snorkel was along for most of the run. Mary was off on her own. The park police stopped her. They don't get it -- NIGHT ORIENTEERING IS NOT A CRIME. After the run, we went to Snorkel's for pasta (with Bove's sauce) and watched the Jayhawks beat Tulsa.

running 1:00:00 [2]

Jogged around a bit. It was cool -- just above freezing -- and foggy. Reminded me of a lot of runs in Stockholm.

running 20:00 [2]

I went for a short jog -- just enough to warm up and stretch my legs a bit.

I ran "The Possum Trot" at Knob Noster. The course was 15 K or so of really nice orienteering. I was happy with my run. I navigated well and my running went better than I'd hoped. There was a stretch of about 2.5-3 K near the end of the race where I was suffering phsyically. But, it seemed to go over after a bit. Brian May won (about 1:34), Mook was about 2 minutes ahead of me. Platt was a couple of places back, but he didn't skip any of the controls (the rules allow you to skip any two).
