orienteering 1:15:00 [3]

Relay champs. I spent about 11 minutes finding 10 (my first attackpoint being a road/parking lot junction on the edge of the control circle...hmmm). Others are much better at managing map problems.

Saturday Jun 28, 2003 #

orienteering 55:00 [4]

I ran red on the best map in Idaho. A not-too-terrible run. I felt the altitude, but managed to run reasonably.

orienteering 30:00 [3]

"sprint" race in Idaho. I boomed one (left the start triangle on the wrong trail!), then everyone else boomed two, putting me in the lead (it was a mass start race). I used the map to navigate to four -- I shouldn't have done that as it cost me time since the map was a bit inaccurate. I was annoyed about the map and walked the next leg. I shuffled around the rest of the course.

cycling 30:00 [2]

After an easy run yesteday, I came home and went to sleep at 9. I slept 9 1/2 hours. So, I guess I'm not yet recovered. Tonight I did an easy ride on the trainer. Tomorrow we're flying to Idaho in the evening.

running 30:00 [2]

I'm nearly recovered from a cold. So, I decided to stop at PNS on the way home from work and jog a bit to see how it felt. It felt a bit bad. But it wasn't necessarily my health -- it was quite hot/humid today (first 100+ "heat index" day of the year). Magnus would have said "det var skoent."

Monday Jun 23, 2003 #

Note

I felt reasonable but not quite normal today. No run, but I did get out in the heat and push the mower around the yard.

Saturday Jun 21, 2003 #

Note

I feel better, but not normal. My throat is a bit scratchy and I've got some congestion. I took the day off, as planned. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. The current plan is to do nothing even if I feel normal (just to be cautious). I don't really expect to feel normal, though.

Friday Jun 20, 2003 #

Note

Woke up in the middle of the night with a scratchy throat. It didn't get better (or worse) all day. I'll take today and tomorrow off. If it isn't better, I'll take some more time off.

Thursday Jun 19, 2003 #

running 30:00 [2]

I stopped at PNS on the way home from work and jogged around a bit.

Wednesday Jun 18, 2003 #

Note

Returned home after the N.A.L.G.A. conference. So far, no SARS symptoms.

Sunday Jun 15, 2003 #

running 30:00 [2]

First thing in the morning I spent a bit of time pounding the pavement around downtown Toronto.

running 1:10:00 [2]

In the early evening, I took the ferry over to the Tornoto Islands and explored a bit. I was able to stick to grass most of the time.

Saturday Jun 14, 2003 #

Note

I'm traveling to Toronto today for work. I'll be back in KC on Wednesday. I'll try to get in a bit of exercise in Toronto.

Thursday Jun 12, 2003 #

running 30:00 [2]

Stopped at PNS to run on the way home from work. I cut the run short in order to get home in time to mow the lawn before the rain started. I managed to start mowing and mowed for about 15 minutes before the rain hit.

Tuesday Jun 10, 2003 #

cycling 40:00 [1]

I was planning to run, but my left foot felt a little bit strange after I "tweaked" it. Another easy day seemed responsible. I rode on the trainer and unclipped very carefully.

Monday Jun 9, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some easy cycling on the trainer. I "tweaked" my left foot right at the end of my run yesterday. I "tweaked" it again today when I was un-clipping my foot from the pedals.

running 1:10:00 [2]

Jogging around on trails at Weston Bend. Another day with nice weather....

running 20:00 [4]

...5 x the big hill at Weston. My times were: 4:56, 4:58*, 4:42, 4:51 and 4:37. I worked pretty hard on the last one. * = a short stop after meeting an unleased dog on the trail (not square headed, but pretty big).

Saturday Jun 7, 2003 #

running 1:30:00 [2]

I jogged around on the roads at Wyandotte. I took it quite easy. The temp was nice (70) and there was even a bit of light rain. Beats Texas.

Friday Jun 6, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

A bit of easy biking seemed like the responsible thing to do.

Thursday Jun 5, 2003 #

orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

I checked controls for the afternoon's relay (which I wouldn't run because I had to fly home). I found one marker with no punch and one very bogus control location. By the end I was worn out.

orienteering 19:00 [4]
ahr:166 4c

Another 4-point course. This was my last race of TJOC and I was annoyed at how I'd run up till then. That probably helped me. I concentrated and worried about the race of a good 20-30 minutes before the start. I had a decent race and managed to win.

Tuesday Jun 3, 2003 #

orienteering 17:00 [4]
ahr:165 4c

Raced teh 4-point course. I ran like I had a bag over my head. I moved well, but didn't pay much attention to the map. A group of us (including Andrew and Michael) ran into the wrong reentrant and searched for quite a while. We finished aroub 4 minutes back of Robbie. Ouch.

orienteering 24:00 [3]

I jogged around the island for the score O'. I took it pretty easy. I skipped one point which was supposedly in a horrible area (lots of thorns and stuff).

orienteering 36:00 [4]
ahr:160

We did a countour, rock and water only course (not vegetation or man made features). It was fun. But, I ran in to some hideous vegetation. About 1/3rd of the way through the course I was dead. It was hot.

Monday Jun 2, 2003 #

orienteering 1:15:00 [2]

We did something close to a beaver O'. I ran with Robbie, Andrew and Michael. It was fun. They all managed to get around the course without any real trouble.

orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

While the TJOCers did some sort of compass and pace exercise (seems like a waste of time to me), I ran the first two course for "Tatiana's Marathon." I started out fine, but struggled the last 1/3rd of the time. It was hot.

Sunday Jun 1, 2003 #

orienteering 45:00 [2]

Hanging controls at TJOC. I set out at about 3:30. It is hot in Texas at 3:30. After about 45-60 minutes of mostly running, I walked the last half hour or so.
