Note
(sick)

2nd bad cold in 5 weeks finally beat me down. Left work early. Will miss Christian's surprise birthday party.

hiking 41:25 [2]

Pre-dawn run/walk around the neighborhood to test new cold weather gear. Mad Bomber was too warm for exercise, even at 5 degrees with a breeze. Face mask was fine. Mittens were totally inadequate. Need some with wind blocking fabric.

snowshoeing 1:29:00 [3]

Trying out my new Winter Walker 22" from LLBean. In Yale Forest off trail. Looked for steep ups and downs and was really pleased by how well the snowshoes gripped. Successfully bashed through several laurel thickets to see if I could without snagging too badly. Had intended to do the New Year's Day hike at Gay City with MHC but this was much more fun and a better workout.

hiking 30:44 [2]

On unplowed roads back to the car after snowshoeing. Nice flurries turned to rain.

stretching/yoga 15:00 [2]

Thera-bands for both shoulders and back and leg stretches.

hiking 2:17:00 [2]

Hockanum River Trails in Manchester. Sunny and nearly 40 degrees. Fell once on snow covered boardwalk.

hiking 2:37:00 [2]

Natchaug State Forest - From closed entry bridge off Route 198 in Eastford, south on CCC Trail Loop, and then on Natchaug Trail to Orchard Hill Outlook then back north to Beaverdam Marsh on the Natchaug. Tricky footing with mushy snow and melting ice on the trail. Lots of meltwater made for impressive waterfalls on several streams.
