I had time before my flight home to orienteer on the map Mike made for me. I drew a course and headed out. I knew the map was a work in progress, so I wasn't sure how to read the big red blob near 1. I thought I had gone too far because the road was curving. So I figured I had missed the "trail". (In reality, I should have gone just a bit further) I went back and found a slight deer trail with a sign near it, so I went in. That seemed reasonable. What wasn't reasonable was that I kept going even after the trail disappeared. Before I knew it, I was stopped dead in my tracks by thorns wrapped all around my legs. That finally made me give up. When I got back to the main path, I saw that my legs were bleeding and muddy. So I headed back to my hotel room to wash off my legs.

I really wanted to run on the beach, and see more of the island, so I went back out again. But now I had very little time left before I had to pack and check out. So I started backwards and did a few more controls.

Memory O at Holcom. This is probably my only chance to O this week. I'm traveling to a real in-person conference! Feels weird but exciting.

run/walk warm up/down 11:00 [2]

Back and forth to Holcom, twice. I grabbed the wrong Memory O cards when I left the house (Campus instead of Holcom) and had to go back.

hike 30:00 [2]

Possum Trot XXI at Bluffwoods. Lots of time carrying equipment back and forth, setting up, working results, breaking down.

It was lots of fun to watch the Possum Trot this year. Start/finish was in a valley (field) and we could see a marker high on the hill. This marker was the half way point on the Full, and the last marker on the Half. So we could the race unfold.

The poor competitors had to deal with snow on the north slopes, which slowly turned to mush as the day warmed up to the 60s. But as a meet worker, I loved the temps!

So much fun to see Tom and Lisa and Tom. And Brenda, Robert and Aiden. And Wyatt. and all the other folks who traveled to compete.
