Liqour Treat hash. Didn't want to go, but was fun and I tried to run as much as I could. First day of training for Portugal?

First skate of the year - Jackson Lake on my own - cloudy but had a super nice chill day. Lots of people on the lake, saw Zoe and Rebecca. Channel between the lakes was open, so walked across to the upper lake. Ice super smooth and fast, very clear. About 4" of ice.

After Jackson Lake went up to Fish Lake just to check it out - it was GLASS! so I guess I had to go for a second skate. So fast, so nice. Very clear. Only frozen to the pennisula. Saw Colin, Emily and Riel at far end of the lake after doing a Ski Marathon recce. Such an awesome skate. Typ. >20km/hr.

Dusty Valley of the Gods ride after the eclipse. Had Pat and Mary shuttle us to the top. Warm, but not too hot. Still full sun. But very dusty as everyone was pulling out from camping out for the eclipse. Campers everywhere across the desolate landscape. But great rock towers to see and net downhill ride.

Nice morning ride of Rodeo trail at Horsethief campground, near Canyonlands. Flowy trail that was M+ difficulty with so many twists and turns, lots of rock. Trail had several "reload" sections where you climbed up to zoom back down again. Just looked like boring juniper and pinon pine forest, but there was lots of rock and terrain to ride. It challenged me!

Hike 1:26:18 [0] 4.84 km (17:50 / km) +51m 16:57 / km

"Hike" exploring Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. So much fun wondering around all the hoodoos "goblins" and exploring the canyons and formations. Didn't even make it to Valley 3, there was more to explore!

Day 4 of White Rim tour, last day.

Woke to overcast morning. Good, we have climbing to do today! Just a half day, nice ride along the river for an hour. Big tail wind and dusty. Then the big climb up "Mineral Bottom" road out of the canyon. About 1000' feet of climbing in <3km. Only look 32 min to do the climb, including stops to take lots of pictures.

Wow, what a trip!

Day 3 of White Rim tour, morning.

Another beautiful, sunny morning. Steep crazy overhang decent off of Murphy Hogback, lots of fun down decent. Part way along stopped to check out "black crack" and great views of Green River. Bobbie gave a good talk on native history in area. Then continued ride to Holman slot canyon. Had nice cool decent / climb down the slot canyon.

Biking 1:54:34 [1] 20.81 km (10.9 kph) +227m

Day 3 of White Rim tour, after lunch.

Seemed like easy riding, but getting tired, decent down last of White Rim to Green River. Saw a native granary up high on a cliff. Rest down by Green River in shade of first cottonwood tree. Then big climb/push up Hardscrabble Hill - a road cut into the cliff side. Lots to vehicles - traffic jamb! Petrified logs in road cut near the top, including a bit of a "log jam" of petrified logs.

Finished at Hardscrabble Camp and had a quick rinse/ cool off in the Green River.

Day 2 of White Rim tour, morning.

Nice cool morning ride from Airport Tower. Good view of "washer woman" tower. Re-groped at the lone shade tree, then on to Keyhole Arch for lunch. Wow, what a lunch spot view!

Biking 2:32:17 [1] 23.42 km (9.2 kph) +364m

Day 2 of White Rim tour, after lunch.

Hot, slow boring gradual climb out of lunch spot. Did side trip to White Crack to see southern tip of Canyonlands. Good flowy pump-track ride back to main White Rim trail got me going again. Nice downhill for a while, but then a few short climbs, first one I pushed. Vertigo Void huge cliff (600 ft) along side of trail, then last steep climb, and push, up Murphy Hogback to camp.

Biking 2:00:16 [1] 14.13 km (7.0 kph) +174m

Day 1 of White Rim tour, morning ride down crazy switch backs of Shafer basin. A bit rough, and ride as tiring slow climb up to lunch spot at Musselmen Arch. Hot, but great views of canyons and hoodoos!

Biking 1:24:02 [1] 11.15 km (8.0 kph) +119m

Day 1 of White Rim tour, after lunch. After lunch went better, nice riding around the bends and seeing the next canyon with easy ride down to the head of each canyon. Rested in the shade because it was getting hot before camp for the evening, waiting for everyone else to catch up. Amazing scenery again. Finished at Airport Tower campsite.

Ride around Monitor & Merrimac buttes outside of Moab to see where we got engaged 23 yrs ago. Much easier with full suspension bikes. Nice hot day. Plan was just to get a view, but the riding went well, so decided to strike out cross-country, avoiding the sandy jeep trails to get to the buttes. Was fun and mostly good. Kind of got in bad sand towards the end, so a bit of pushing.

Back on the bike trail had awesome fast ride down the slickrock plaza "following the dots". End of the ride down the wash was a sandy mess with lots of walking. Stopped to see the dinosaur bones at the end of Mill Creek Wash.
