Cycling 17:03 [2]
ahr:115 max:150 rhr:47 slept:6.75

Cycle into work, a bit unluckier with the lights today.

Cycling 18:28 [2]
ahr:114 max:156

Cycle to Meadow for...drum roll...track intervals with the local athletics club! I know, I must be insane. It's about time though.

Running 9:00 [2]

Warm up before intervals at Meadowbank.

Intervals 37:05 [5]
ahr:170 max:199 rhr:45 slept:6.75 shoes: Saucony Cohesion

Track intervals with the Club that used to be City at Meadowbank. I finally bit the bullet and it was far less scary than I anticipated! I've been assigned to the Endurance group who are a friendly bunch, particularly a really nice Belgian girl. Session was 2 x 200, 7 x 600 but with staggered starts so you all finished together, so mine was probably more like 550, then 2 x 200m, jog back to the start for each rest. Times as follows:

0.40 (0.57), 0.40 (1.17),
1.53 (1.34), 1.52 (1.47), 1.54 (1.27), 1.54 (1.21), 1.54 (1.22), 1.53 (1.27), 1.54 (1.17)
0.36 (1.00), 0.35 (8.24)

Followed by stretches. Good fun, running with good style, chest slightly tight and no stomach issues. New diet seems to be sorting those out, so yey for that!

Cycling 13:16 [2]
ahr:153 max:176

Cycle back home on the Seat path - surprised with how strong I felt up the hill! Good evening's session!

Cycling 15:02 [2]
ahr:116 max:146 rhr:45 slept:7.0 (sick)

Didn't sleep as well as I'd have liked due to the RAGE of being woken up by freshers screaming outside my window at midnight. Which is bad enough, you say. But oh no, the reason they were shrieking was because they were jumping up and down. Let them jump you say! On MY CAR BONNET! The little s**ts. And they were all girls. You almost expect that from boys, but girls. In heels! RAH!

But anyway, yes, I therefore slept for less than a wanted and didn't go to the gym before work. Cycled in the horrible way and the lights were all in my favour today so it wasn't too bad.

Cycling 19:18 [2]
ahr:106 max:137

Cycle back up to George Square for a bit of alpha screen action.

Strength 46:22 [4]
ahr:109 max:163 shoes: Road Sauconys

Whew. First weights session in a while and loaded them up as limbs were feeling pretty fresh. Good session, pushed a couple of the moves to failure and enjoyed being back in the gym. Did:

Cleans 35kg 4 x 5
Push press 30kg 4 x 5
Overhead squat 25kg 4 x 5
Pull down thingies 27.5kg 3 x 10
BB Roll outs 3 x 10

Think the old core will be aching tomorrow!

Cycling 16:34 [2]
ahr:100 max:133

Cycle back to the lab.

Cycling 24:30 [2]
ahr:109 max:148

Pretty gentle cycle home the George Street way. By the time I got home at 6.30 I was knackered, still a bit stuffy and really hungry, so decided to miss the recovery run and get some food inside me. Then went to meet Nikki for a good gossip at the Elephant House and some illicit chocolate brownie. Mmm/

Cycling 25:00 [1]

Cycling to the Elephant House and then back via the Meadows and Tesco in a slightly circuitous fashion. Now not tired and it's bedtime. Pah. I can hear the Freshers on the move again...if only I had an air rifle...

Orienteering 1:14:00 [4] ***** 6.9 km (10:43 / km) +350m 8:33 / km
ahr:177 max:189 spiked:15/20c rhr:44 slept:10.5 (sick) shoes: Shiny silver integrators

Feeling alright but still slighty bunged in my head today, and decided I couldn't miss the chance to run at Birsemore Hill (or Fungle as it was advertised, which is a far better name!). Beautiful forest with plenty of variation, semi open heathery marshy stuff, intricate plantation, small patches of thick green and a really tough steep rocky slope to finish. Errors:

2-3: Came off the higher boulder but no accurate compass and drifted to the wrong clearing
3-4: Dropped much lower than planned and didn't catch on straight away, and physically really tough the whole way - should have stayed highers in more white stuff
9-10: Was on line till halfway then instead of pushing up the hill dropped down.
14-15: AP too far away and drifted from it, ended up too low and had to retrace steps back up hill
17-18: Really unconfident, trying to go into the green early - no real attack point past marshy re entrant.

Mistakes therefore mostly post attack point when wasn't accurate enough on leaving them - need to work on this. Physically felt strong despite a coughing fit on the way to number 13!

Brown course at Crathes. Ran pretty easily but fresh legs must have been moving pretty fast! A few small muddles but nothing major. Had a bit of a coughing fit at one point and slightly tight chest in a couple of spots, but generally feeling alright and really enjoyed the course despite the long run out early on.

Cycling 15:34 [2]
ahr:112 max:135 rhr:45 slept:7.5 (sick) (rest day)

Slightly faster cycle into work today, feeling much more like myself but my ear's a bit blocked up. Still, should be good for tomorrow, whoop! I'm dead bored of resting. I blame it on Modest Mouse.

Cycling 18:44 [2]
ahr:113 max:146

Cycle speed a upped a bit, feeling much better now.

Cycling 18:47 [2]
ahr:109 max:143 rhr:44 slept:8.0 (sick) (rest day)

Feeling a bit better this morning and heart rate back down - slept much better despite waking a couple of times with green goo to cough up (Mmm, nice). Still a bit sore in the old throat so just the cycle into work and back today and tomorrow, keeping the HR below 70% of max. Easier on the way in than the way home! Should then be right as rain for a belt around Crathes and Fungle at the weekend and a boost to the autumn training start! Also might head to Fontainebleau for a day out from Paris next week, have looked at some maps and it looks fantastic. Eeee!

Cycling 40:55 [2]
ahr:104 max:139 (sick) (rest day)

Easy cycle out to Shitehill to pick up Jeff, who's looking nice and sparkly after costing me pretty much all of my disposable income for three months. Unfortunately that income had pretty much been disposed of and now I am in cash stress. Rah!

Note
rhr:62! slept:4.0 (sick) (rest day)

Bleurgh, woke up this morning to a very high heart rate and a thick head. I say woke up, I'm not sure how much I was actually asleep, having had one of those horrible nights where every time you drop off to sleep your throat fills with phlegm and you cough and swallow and you still feel like shite. So not the rest I was planning on and hence caught the bus into work. Might cycle easily back as I don't like leaving my bike at work, but am going to leave early and have an easy afternoon I think. Saw Kirsty on the bus and she was very understanding as she knows this is the first time I've caught a bus to work erm, ever. Now to my primer designing and then I can go!

Cycling 27:18 [2]
ahr:95 max:136 slept:4.0 (sick) (rest day)

Didn't want to leave my bike at work two nights running in case it got nicked so cycled home really slowly with HR monitor on to go nuts if I went above 70% of my heart rate. I didn't, so that was good, and felt okay when cycling. Will hopefully sleep better tonight.
