First orienteering event of the year in Kamloops, so naturally a good Salmon Arm crowd showed up (about 25 or so), but unfortunately only one family from Kamloops besides Jackie and Wade the organizers. I think I am going to do some targeted Facebook advertising before the next one, and look into newspaper adds as well.
Anyways, the run went fairly well, a ton of climb (my watch only says 250m), but I counted 440 based on contour counting. Beat Brian by around 8 minutes, but he made a pretty major mistake. I had a couple of little mistakes, and didn't read ahead very much, but I mostly just didn't have the running speed and endurance for that many hills. Without having school (only exams left) I have a lot more time to train.
I was pretty sure that the map around #2 was screwy, and the control might have been in the wrong depression/gulley, and looking at the gps overlay I am quite confident in saying that something was wrong there.
7 Was also lower than it should have been. I was slightly disappointed and frustrated that we went into the bike ranch section, since the map is just so far out of date over there. I think I am going to be updating that section this year.
