Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

10 AM

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [4]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

A day for learning lessons.

The legs did not feel good on the warm up and I was starting the race with quite a negative attitude. The legs were confirmed on the first few controls (though somehow was equal quickest on 2nd leg). Third was scrappy contouring and sixth was a walk up the hill, I had seen muz and Simon, knowing I had already dropped time was getting cranky. Stuffed 7, couldn't make things fit.

The next few were ok and I joined Victor and Patrik for a few legs. Patrik disappeared and I was concentrating on holding Victor too much and ran with him to the 14th (thinking it was my 12th). Then a quick gel and out with him towards the 15th, stopped after 30 seconds, swore at my self and headed to the 13th (thinking it was my 12th) punched it headed on. First Simon then Muz went past the opposite way. The penny then dropped and I realised I had done things in the wrong order!

I started to go onto my actual 12th but my head was all over the shop and I had no idea where I was. Fumbled and fucked around finally getting there, by now I was having an argument in my head over quitting or keeping on going. I really didn't want to DNF/give up but could only think of my heavy legs and trying to salvage a good result for tomorrow. I thought if the Stingers relied on my result they would be stuffed anyway so it was a personal deciion. I kept bumbling through to 15 deciding to keep going on the way.

I got to 15 then looked at the leg and thought the 'smart' thing to do would be cut losses and go for fresher legs for tomorrow. Of course as the day wore I realised that had I kept going and finished the course in a reasonable fashion I'd still be maybe 20th - so a decent result. On the course all I could see was being of the tal end of the th field.

So the lessons learnt
- read your map, read the controls numbers
- don't focus on others, yes they can be used to your advantage but ALWAYS focus on your own races
- trust in myself that I am running well enough that even with a big error I can salvage something from races (especially long granite races where people can blow out)
- if in doubt, don't be and just keep going
- do not start races negatively. I should be concentrating on my good performances of the past two days , not thinking that those performances had fatigued my fitness
- harden the fuck up

Time to move on to tomorrow's race and the Canberra NOLs

Orienteering (Easter Prologue) 19:09 [5] 3.5 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom Streak XC

Easter Prologue, 9th M21E 14th? overall.

Pretty happy, but not ecstatic. Small time losses at 6, 9, 12 then about 30sec at 14 when I allowed myself to get distracted. More lost time at 17 when looking at 18, 11sec compared to Ian. I also had a pants accident near number 12 which I had to clean up, which also cost me about 20 secs.

Rob caught me here and we were a little sloppy for a few controls and went opposite ways to 23 and I got in before him.

Nominated for WOC for the first time ever. I think 2014 is more 'realistic' and I hope to be realisitically challenging for a spot then but gotta be in it to win it.

I'd like to think I'd have a good shot of Bushrangers this year if I can keep gaining fitness and start to put more structure/specificity into my sessions.

Running 42:13 [3] 8.51 km (4:58 / km) +156m 4:33 / km

Home along the creek from UC (where I ran past Fat Rat's building) and over Mt Rogers. Missed the bike path turn up Rogers and went a bit further around the back than planned but that was good in the end to get the distacne over the hour.

I do have a niggling ache at the top of my right shin which I need to keep an eye on. Hopefully its nothing and will settle, either way I'll get through to easter and then deal with it i think. Have a massage booked early next week so that might loosen everything up and relieve any tension that may be causing it.

Also third new pair of shoes in three days - have exhausted my chain reaction/wiggle orders now and really happy with them all.

Running 46:00 [3]
weight:84.2kg shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

Macgregor loop in the fading light. Did a surge along the fire trail ~12min and felt quite good again which was a plus. The other plus was that my second new pair of shoes in two days were great. Got the roclites for Easter and happy with the choice. Ran most on trails and grass.

Monday Mar 18, 2013 #

Note
weight:84.4kg

Long tiring week working on CP but it went off really well on the day. Only two weeks to easter so need to get the legs moving again - though it was a pretty active week!
5 PM

Running 32:41 [3] 7.3 km (4:29 / km) +85m 4:14 / km
shoes: Nike Lunareclipse 2

Easy one around border loop and some of Dunlop loop, little increase along the pond and hill to stretch out. Felt like I was lumbering a bit but will loosen up next run.

First run in Lunar eclipse, I like em. Comfy straight away no issues. Potential to replace structures as my shoe of choice.

Tuesday Mar 12, 2013 #

Note

Felt like ive been on the verge of sickness and felt real weak for the past week. In a bit of a hole I think. This week won't be too prodcutive with CP stuff so just planing to get through this week then try and get a couple of good weeks in prior to easter.

Also definitely need to get more sleep.
