Compass Sport Cup Final 5th
Pretty grotty area with bracken and brambles which meant loads of track running. Head wasn't really focused and because the nav was quite easy, ended up making loads of stupid mistakes. Such as running along the wrong path to 12.

FRA Relays - Grasmere Leg 3 Nav with Claire G
50th fastest leg time (3rd women's team)
Was really nervous beforehand as the fog was down and I was paired with Claire G who is a machine up the hills. We're a bit of an odd pair as she's faster uphill, I'm faster on rough, contouring legs and we're about the same downhill, but it somehow seems to work pretty well.
Started out a fair way down the field as our 1st leg had to stop and assist a guy who'd cracked his head open on a rock. Simple 1st control just following the stream, passing loads of teams. Then 2 was a very tricky leg climbing over the ridge into the fog. Followed the massive trod at first then got very confused when we popped out at the tarn as I thought we'd climbed a lot higher. But no bother, probably the better route anyway. Then got really frustrated when we got passed by a load of teams we'd overtaken as they found a track (on all the old maps but not race map) leading from the tarn to the ridge whilst we had trudged through a load of bracken. Sketchy decent into the control, the fence seemed to take forever to appear. Wasn't sure where the crossing was when we hit the fence so turned right and reached the fence junction, which the 3 pairs we were with crossed even though it was OOB. But we turned left and went to the proper crossing and managed to get the control before them and sneak away into the fog!! Winning!! :)
3 was simple, being funnelled to the control by the fences and a track so couldn't go wrong. My favourite leg of the course just hooning along the little sheep tracks. Then we hit 'The Wall'...a solid 15mins straight up the 250m climb. A slight break as we hit the flat track along the ridge, then contoured around part of the leg 4 course to reach the other ridge before descending into the valley. This descent was almost as bad as the climb as it was very steep, rocky and bracken. Legs completely destroyed now so opted for the round route to avoid the final hill to 4. Easy nav from here to the finish so just trying to hang onto Claire whilst my legs were giving way beneath me.
Jill had a great run on 4th leg to overtake the Haries team and we finished in 6th place.
