GWR Towpath 10km, very hot day, 30 degrees, but luckily this was shady mostly, but still effing hot! Was in 2 minds as to whether I should even race, but blister from Wednesday had healed, so started.
13th 1st Vet50, 39:17.
5km's in 19:20 & 19:57.
http://www.greatwesternrunners.org.uk/index.php/re... Plan was to treat as fast paced race-training run at 4mins/km, so set off behind some veteran luminaries like Ken Ham (wok man) & Robin Phillips. Pattering along in my nice road racers.
1km was a silly 3:39, so slowed down and did 3:55 for km 2, at which point "Ken Hom" (Westbury; vet55) suddenly slowed to a crawl, so past him I went. Fast Vet45 Paul Deaton (clubmate) ran with me for 2km, but at 4km I felt OK so trotted past, banging out a few sub-4's to reach 5km turn in 19:20. Not half bad!
Ooops. windy on return, and by 6km, i was starting to hurt. 7km - drinks. But caught an ailing Robin Phillips (Westbury; Vet40), and , as he was clearly dying, dropped him too. Then caught another runner. Dropped him too! Why? I was also dying? Struggling to keep kilo's the right side of 4 mins now - in pain. GRIM. Lucky to hold on ahead of these two runners.
Garmin was lying to me hilariously the whole way, and thought i did 13km, or something, with a 10km split of 28:45. oh well. Has it been hacked by ISIS?
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1760457...Pleased. won wine; small consolation for missing Tyntesfield 10km at which I'd have also hoped to win Vet50.
