spiked:14/15c shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Leg 2 on M18- 4.7km 145m (Gaffle D)
Pre race i felt pretty good, a lot calmer and less jumpy maybe because i'd waited around less, something to consider for the future maybe? Matt had a very good run on 1st leg, coming in with about a minute and half lead so my job was basically to stay ahead but managed to gain another 30 secs so going in to last leg we had a 2 minute lead.
Went out in first obviously and immediately a slight slip on 1, losing at least 30 seconds, maybe slightly more, but found it fine when Tam went in to the control. Ran down the path off towards 2 with him then cut off earlier and didn't see him again until i was on my way to 3 and he was just coming in to the clearing for 2. Found 2 well though, heading diagonally across down the hill then cutting more or less straight from the big path and landing in the depression. I think this helped with my confidence as i knew i'd beaten tam to it. Carrying on to 3 took a almost straight route, only running along a path for a small bit, but ticking of the other paths as i went. Straight across the open in to 4 checking off the thicket on the way and found it pretty well. Path along to the large path then a good bearing in to 5 to land straight on it again. Tricky leg to 6, so pace dropped slightly just making sure i nailed it and i did, again heading diagonally across the hill in to the patches of green and found it at the end of them. Strange route to 7, concentration slipped, should have headed up to path but decided to contour along for a bit before realising so lost a bit along, still, no navigational error just slightly odd route choice. Straight to 8 may not have been the fastest for running speed but bearing was spot and could see it from the path so just up through the open to the control. Almost straight again to 9 and seemed to run forever until i found the gulley but knew i couldn't miss it if i kept running so found it fine just hesitant as i ran so far in. Slight slip on 10, headed down the wrong path looking for the thicket but corrected it and took a bearing to it. Spectator control next so couldn't miss it, nice lift from the OD section in the arena spurred me on to 12. Straight bearing more or less to the gully almost landing on the camera man. Path to 13 found it fine again. Round the rough open to 14 then last control and finish.
Everything went a lot better today, was thinking clearer and running better. However was running slower as i was on my own and didn't really need to kill the course, just get it clean really but definitely felt a lot stronger on the hills definitely. I think maybe not getting distracted by other people and wondering what they were doing helped as i just got my head down and ran. Enjoyed it as well which i think helped.
We ended up 2nd overall after Dance brought SYO back with a storming run spo hats off to them.
I have a bit of a break now unitl after my exams really, only YBT and SINS to do but should get some quality training in and hopefully sort my knee out in the process.
5th on my leg BA so a bit slower than i wanted but i'm ok with that, as i said, i wasn't trying to kill it.

Running (Warm down) 10:00 [1] 1.3 km (7:42 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Easy running and stretching in the arena
1 PM

Orienteering (Maze (Micro Sprint)) 1:37 [5]
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Took this immensely seriously. Chasing aidan down, flowed well and nailed them all, a tad hesitant. Biggest race of the weekend, was winning for quite a bit and got a prize but not sure overall, think i won juniors.
